Now watch the coyotes go on a 10 game point streak :sarcasm:
No, no...you're not thinking Coyote enough...sure they'll go on the inevitable 10 game point streak and finish like 10th last but then...wait for it...Ottawa will win the lottery. f***ing book it!

Define "taking back money" ... is it for the remainder of this season (likely not an issue because it just replaces Chychrun's payroll) or is it dumb money into future seasons?

I guess this is two kicks at the can for the lottery if they miss the playoffs

It's more that pick 10 is historically worth 5x as much as pick 32. So the return is theoretically better than anything a serious contender was offering.

It's just not sexy the way a named prospect is, especially to HF and casual fans.

You can draft a Barzal level player and change the trajectory of your franchise. Nobody was offering that in trade.

You guys are forgetting about LA. What happened there? We couldn't take on money? Or Columbus? Or what about Edmonton who wanted Chych but had to send us $$$.
It's pretty obvious we wanted something in addition to take back Quick, Korpisalo, Barrie etc and they refused and we wouldn't budge.

Don’t you go talking sense I’m not done being angry yet

Pay attention to what people have been saying about this draft. There are multiple players who are ranked or projected to be in the later half of the 1st or even in the 2nd that some people have been talking about as top 15 picks. There are probably like 10 guys that every scout has differently ranked. Some guys have ASP in the top 10. Some have him in the late 1st. Stramel is the same. Leonard. Dragicevic is ranked as the best D in the draft or a late 1st. I trust our scouts and they very clearly have their eyes on this draft. I don't blame them. I'm also super high on this draft. Think it's one of the best ones in history.
Spin it anyway you want, it's not a good deal, unless Ottawa ends up 16th and wins the lottery. Not even a prospect. Those seconds mean diddly squat, unless we can trade back up into the first round which I doubt we will.

If we draft top 10 with the pick and get a guy like Yager you will be changing your tune.

We’ll pay Zack Kassian for two years but won’t maximize value on our most valuable trade chip
I highly doubt BA is done with that retention spot. Two days left.

EDIT: Misread this like an idiot. My bad.

Pretty poorly played by Bill. Egg all over his face on this one.

Still to learn what the conditions are...if Ottawa wins the lottery what happens?
Second post. Gets deferred to next year, unprotected.

The return is a little underwhelming, but the real concern is the absolute refusal to spend money. I get that Meruelo is probably hemorrhaging money with a 5,000 seat venue. I hope there does come a day where they get the TED built and start spending money again. It's kind of a tough situation to be in though. You may not want to start spending money until you're bringing in fans, but you're not going to bring in fans with draft picks either, you need to ice a good product first.

A normal cash flush rebuilding team would have eaten the Petersen contract and whatever else LA wanted for some incredibly stupid HF sexy return. That's kind of frustrating. But I feel better about this front office than any other, and trust their drafting ability.

I’m hoping it’s directly correlated to them anticipating the arena deal getting approved. There will be a lot of money spent, if so.

Maybe we should have, but couldn't. It's obvious Ottawa was BA's last resort, because he couldn't take money back. Well played Ottawa. You got one hell of a player.
