I shouldn’t be so surprised that people aren’t fathoming the difference between an Ottawa first this year and a 1st from Carolina or Boston or Edmonton.

Ottawa is a good bet to miss the playoffs.
You think so? East top 6 is incredibly strong but after that it's pretty wide open. Ottawa has been playing pretty good recently and now with the addition of Chychrun, a huge addition to their blueline, I think them climbing to that #7 or #8 spot is entirely realistic.

Little lighter? For Christ sake hbk. The Coyote's can do no wrong in your eyes. This was terrible with a capital T.

It is not.
The ask was 2x1sts and a 2nd. We ended up with 1x1st and 2x2nds. The 1st we are getting is likely a top 10-15 pick in a relatively strong draft (the drop off is around 20) instead of what i was anticipating to be a pick in that 24-32 range.

It's 3 picks in the top 60. That might not be good value wise for Chychrun, but it is still a lot, especially in this draft.
After the top ten the draft turns into a bigger crap shoot than it already is.

Ottawa is 6 out of the first wildcard with 4 games in hand on the Isles, is 6-3-1 in their last 10 and playing very well. There is a really good chance Chycrun is a player that puts them over the top and at least into the playoffs although likely only for one round.
Ottawa is also tied with Nashville, Detroit, Washington, and 7/8 points ahead of STL, Montreal, and PHI. Good chance those teams which majority sold off stay around the same range.

Ottawa has the Isles, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and Florida to leapfrog to get into the Wild Card, plus the aforementioned Detroit and Washington are tied with them and MTL and PHI aren't too far behind. It's going to be a hell of a road for them to get in. I actually think STL will bounce up in the standings after trading so many players and giving their young guys more time and I think NYI are definitely the team to beat with Horvat.

Chayka did trade the #7 overall pick for a 2C and a backup G which is questionable from the start let alone when both failed miserably to meet expectations.
OK, so they are tied for stupidity. Where is Chayka now?

That would be very bad.

What did we pay to convert a contender pick to 11th overall last draft?
How would us winning Bedard be bad? OTT pick could be just below the ECF giving us the worst outcome that it doesn't turn into unprotected next year and I'd still be over the f***ing moon at drafting Bedard.

Will see what the Yotes get with this 1st round pick. You gotta remember that Chych went 16th overall. BA def overplayed his hand though and should have got another guaranteed 1st.

That's basically equivalent. All you are doing is pulling forward the timeline by attaching a name.
Initial return is not easy on the eyes but when you dig into it, you’re right.
BOS 1st ~ OTT 2nd, BOS 2nd < OTT 2nd, Lysell = or < OTT’s ‘23 1st. Hopefully they get a couple of the guys they’re coveting.
