That's a big IF OTT doesn't find a way to sneak into the playoffs.

If this is a top 8-12 pick we got a much better deal than DeBrincat. If this gets to pick 16 I'm going to be very displeased.

Really we can't begin to evaluate this until the draft but right now I'm not happy.

Ottawa is in the murderous east and unlikely to go on a tear. Point projections were a part of the calculus on this trade.

There's someone in the teens they are obsessing over.

So basically what we need to have happen is for Ottawa to completely shit the bed in March or this trade is likely to end up pretty f***ing unspectacular.

I know Schmaltz likes AZ but I don't see how he survives this cash purge.

Hard to believe someone couldn’t outbid that.

Should be a nice 1st rounder from Ottawa at least
Big deal. Why not keep Chych? Let him play rest of the year and trade him in the summer. Maybe rt is right and AM is broke.

I’m just glad that’s all over with. I wonder if we use the other retention slot on another trade or cap dump.

An Ottawa 1st and two 2nds is better than two Boston 1sts and one 2nd.

THIS.

Bill Armstrong wanted 2 1sts and a second. He got a 1st and 2 seconds, but the first is from Ottawa and is currently 13th in a very deep draft (will probably end up 10-15OA, that is a GOOD asset). Imo he clearly got his ask. Even though he probably overplayed his hand / likely could've gotten more with all these insane packages that have been flying around.

Right now that Ottawa 1st could be pick #10-14. That’s a great pick. At worst it would likely be in the late teens. If the crazy happens and they go on a run in the playoffs to the ECF and that pick is late, we get the additional 1st added as protection. Might not be what everyone was hoping but that pick is very appealing.

Little lighter than expected but like the 23 1st.
Little lighter? For Christ sake hbk. The Coyote's can do no wrong in your eyes. This was terrible with a capital T.

Can probably use that pick + a 2nd to move back into the 1st round. We have what, 4 seconds in this draft now? That's a lot. May not be the glamorous trade we wanted, but it's still a hell of a haul.
It is not.

I shouldn’t be so surprised that people aren’t fathoming the difference between an Ottawa first this year and a 1st from Carolina or Boston or Edmonton.

Ottawa is a good bet to miss the playoffs.
Ottawa is 6 out of the first wildcard with 4 games in hand on the Isles, is 6-3-1 in their last 10 and playing very well. There is a really good chance Chycrun is a player that puts them over the top and at least into the playoffs although likely only for one round.

The price all along has been 2 A assets and 1 B asset. It's frustrating that it instead ended up being 1 A asset and 2 B assets. Now if Ottawa can miss the playoffs by a wide margin but not so wide it lands them in the top 5, then this would definitely move the needle on the trade IMO. I'm not so confident that's actually going to happen though, especially knowing how things usually go for the Coyotes, that's what has my stomach twisted in knots right now. Ugh.

True. There’s a good chance of that. There’s also a good chance they don’t make it.
