It's not only the first pick, it's about the whole package coming back that counts. Chych was never going to Pitts, Boston or Washington. You guys are hung up on this one pick. We may never know but I bet we hear rumblings there were better deals out there but BA or AM did not want to take money back.
We prioritized this pick because it appears it will be the best one offered in a top heavy draft.

Which teams first do u think we ahould have acquired instead of Ottawa? LA? edm? Pittsburgh? bos? Make your call.

It's still the best 1st, and I like it more than getting the NYR + TOR 1st from STL right now (allowed to change that if OTT makes it and NYR misses haha). I'll be thrilled if for some reason this end in the. 10-13 range, I will be happy if it is 14-16, and close to disappointed if 17-22.

I think this draft may be difficult to move up into tiers. If GM's are smart and remember the 2015 draft there was a large fall off after 20 (Barzal 16, Connor 17, Chabot 18, Eriksson-Ek 20). Although Boeser, Konecny and Roslovic were selected 23-25.

But we also didn't quite get the ammo we would need to really move around this draft. Maybe after the Gostisbehere deal finalized Armstrong conceded and took the OTT deal because he couldn't get a 2nd for Ghost.

I understand, but there should have been a roster player or a real good prospect as well. Picks are a gamble, and a bigger crap shoot after the first round. Ottawa didn't lose one player in their system. How about giving Ottawa credit instead of trying to defend BA.

I always said that the ask was draft picks. Especially given the improvements we have made to our amateur scouting. Much easier to acquire picks than a prospect as well. You are entitled to your opinion but we differ here.

Makes sense why we didn’t take that. It would’ve been nice to get bjornfot to have a name already attached to the trade but if we got 2 late firsts we’d all be coming up with scenarios on how to turn them into a higher pick anyways

I'll give them credit for waiting out and being the last man standing, which allowed them to have all the leverage...but it's not a "fleecing" as stated, it's a bad deal for sure, but not atrocious.

At time of trade Ottawa was sitting #13, so the trade will obviously get worse and worse the better Ottawa does...especially since we could probably get Yager at #13

Every report I've ever seen or heard has said that Bill approached Chychrun and asked if he wanted out as a big teardown was coming. Chychrun thought it over and answered that he would welcome a trade to a team closer to winning.
That would be correct:
Chychrun’s agent, Andy Scott, has said numerous times that the Coyotes approached Chychrun nearly two years ago about moving him to a contending team while Arizona gathered assets for a rebuild. The Senators have had Chychrun on their radar throughout.

Just remember, those are all made up rumors or trade proposals too. 87.5% were started by RT while he should have been listening to his wife telling him about her day.
LOL, I tried to warn him, but he got all pissy. Guess it struck too close to home.
Don’t miss his 87.5% shit though!

I understand the pick is better now, BUT what we got was not enough. If you think it was, that's your opinion and you are entitled to it. For the type of player, age, contract and position Chych plays I think we lost the deal, big time. These type of players hardly ever become available.
Won’t know until whatever players we pick develop.

This is already out there - "better" is a subjective judgement but the no $$ made the other offer(s) unpalatable.

Agreed! I know BA and many F40 members want draft picks…that way you get the guy who fits your system. And while we have a significantly improved our scouting and development staff….you still never know with draft picks. Alternatively if there are prospects who are progressing positively in their development that’s potentially less risk.

Trading a marquee player for just draft picks (none of which figure to be better than 12OA) is a massive risk.

And yeah, kudos to Dorian who didn’t give up any of his solid prospects for Chychrun or Debrincat.

My current dream the impossible dream scenario is we win 1-2 with our pick, Ottawa pick ends at 8-11 and we grab Bedard/Fantilli and a falling Michkov.

If Ottawa makes the playoffs and we don’t get multiple 2nds with our capspace this summer, BA overplayed his hand and lost.

If Ottawa misses the playoff, and we get a couple of extra seconds for dumps this summer, BA’s strategy paid off.

If LA offered two 1sts and Bjornfot that is the equivalent of two 1sts and a 2nd. Or roughly equivalent to the Ottawa return. Except Arizona wouldn’t had to take on Quick. Which would’ve theoretically cost us a camp dump deal over the summer.

Anyone watch Ottawa last night against the Rangers? It's only one game but damn, they look like a team that's going to catch a Wildcard spot. They're currently sitting only four points out of a spot with 3 games in hand. Next game at home against Columbus. The Islanders need to step on the gas.

That rumored Kings offer is not better than what the Yotes ultimately got IMO… that’s mainly because I’m not a huge Bjornfot fan.

That Sens pick just has a lot of potential. We’ll see if the gamble ultimately pays off.

For what it's worth (not much) the talking heads on TSN Trade Center including Bruce Boudreau unanimously agreed with me in predicting that Ottawa will be one of the East wildcard teams.

True, but by then Chych and Ottawa will be planning a parade.

Then upset the Bruins.

Say you get 12th and nab Reinbacher or Gulyuyav. Either of those guys has more top pairing potential than Bjornfot
Pie in the sky scenario.
