Devil is in the details. No timeline from Dorion on prospect vs pick focus and no indication of draft year.

BA was very candid in saying he’d refuse the Ottawa offer in October because he needed more pick certainty. If Dorion is referencing older conversations, or conversations about draft picks several years out, he’s not contradicting BA at all.

If you haven’t listened to the Marek interview and subsequent monologue, I can’t recommend it enough. Changed my whole outlook. No joke.
BS baffles brains.

Makes me sick. So happy for Chych.

Yes, interview relieved a lot of nerves...they've got a plan and sticking too it. I will however first one to throw the entire "tire fire" if they trade core players or 1st line players ala Schmaltz.

Depending on the return, I think I could live with a Schmaltz trade. He's due a ton of money the last years of his contract and I don't think he's worth that much. But if they trade Keller or Crouse I'm jumping off a bridge.

I did my angry stomping around deal yesterday and now I’m done.

The deal is okay.

It’s not great, or even good, it’s fine. If you completely remove yourself from the packages that have been thrown around on here and Twitter for the last 15 months and just look at the deal as it is, it makes more sense.

3 years down the line this trade will not be discussed in terms of what we wanted but didn’t receive, it will be judged only on what they got in the end and how the picks turned out.

With that in mind, this trade cannot be judged fully today. Getting a potentially top 15 pick in a good draft is good, better if it’s top 10 somehow. There’s no saying what the 2 seconds will turn into. A 2nd was used on jack Mcbain, who is a fine player.

The sens could also fall flat with chychrun these next two years, there’s just no way to know for sure today.

And he's hurt a ton. I want them to trade Schmaltz. I think trading him caps this deadline off nicely. Crouse and Keller are the nice building blocks to dead cat bounce next year off with. I'm looking forward to finally watching games with an all positive outlook next season. Feel like I've been waiting forever for that. That is of course if they are still here with a place to play that fills the owner's pocket with money. If not we're f***ed anyway.

He was very clear in the interview Jakey. The pick has a lot more clarity now than it did a few months ago. Their record now tells you a lot more about where they will finish than it did then. How can you not understand that?
I understand the pick is better now, BUT what we got was not enough. If you think it was, that's your opinion and you are entitled to it. For the type of player, age, contract and position Chych plays I think we lost the deal, big time. These type of players hardly ever become available.

all they would get for Schmaltz would be a 2nd, so why bother, keep him on the club and keep that 1st line intact, it's our only scoring line at the moment, other than what Maccelli does on the 2nd line.

We've got enough draft capital, we won't be able to sign all the players, so they're gonna have to start trading some of those player assets for actual players or more picks.

I agree...fair value would have been 1st (top whatever protected), Greig & 2nd. The trade we got was below that, so it's not a good deal, but it's better than all that 1st/Kaliyev/2nd or 1st/Spence/2nd from LA that is for sure, so we didn't get premium price, but we didn't pay bargain basement either.

There is no use worrying about it any longer, BA won't be the last GM to get fleeced in a trade.:)

Anytime you can get a player like Chych without losing a player off your roster is a big win.

Not that long ago someone was describing GM'S and Bill was labeled "Salesman". I see a lot of easy targets here for buyers that take his every word as truth despite other side telling you it isn't true.

Not disagreeing w/you, just saying that there is a big difference with getting a roster player if it's a Grieg, but I'd take the Ottawa 2nd over Kaliyev, Spence, Turcotte or whatever else the Kings posters were indicating in a deal.

Have you looked at Ottawa's roster. That is a very very good and young core. Good for them, their fans have suffered almost as long as we have.

There is no doubt in my mind that he is the used car salesman type. What I cant figure out quite yet is who is the target of his hustle. Could be us.

If we can get a ‘23 1st for Schmaltz, we should do it. If not, we should wait.
I'd wait regardless.
His value prolly won't go down next season.
I want Guenther to be sheltered behind a better RW for most of next season. By the deadline Bill can ask Schmaltz if he wants to go to a contender. The NTC that kicks in shouldn't be much of an obstacle.

Every GM is going to say why they made a deal, why it made sense, etc...BA is no different, there is always a way to rationalize a return. BA shopped him for 18 months to 30 teams. I think we got market value, many teams would want Chych, BA did the best he could, its not like he made a hurried deal.

BA is a great salesman, if you listen to him, he sounds convincing in this interview, just like he did when he said we would get 2 firsts and a good prospect. Other GMs aren't fools. The scary part is did BA really Over value Chych that much or was he just trying to get a crazy price for him (greater fool theory).

I don't think it's anything nefarious, it's just the back and forth of making a deal. Bill might have started at the moon but now suggests he really only wanted the sun and got it. However other party's remember the ask for the moon.
