His skating looks a good bit better than I thought it was pre-draft. Also looks more dynamic with the puck too. Pretty encouraged by him overall.

I just think Larkin is still a pretty special skater and in the top 5 or so % in the league.

Can Quinn Hughes play effectively on the smaller ice?

For, me it looks like ASP does not need any extra width in size rink, when he goes just through the middle of the ice to score.

I see your point but not sure I get the Quinn Hughes reference. He played in NA his whole life.

The real question is centered around his ability to walk the line using stutter steps and fakes before attacking. If you visualize what the size of a standard rink is, while watching the highlights., he seems to be off the ice and using more space than ge would have in NA.

I hope for and want him to be the best player Steve drafted. I was and still am super excited about the pick. Love his game, just a bit cautious because we have seen young players, such as nills lundqvist, light up the SHL and not have their game translate.

He will be even better in NA. His fast thinking and hockey IQ will help

Pellikka currently in Finland at U20 practise tournament.

Scored 1+1 against Czechs at Sweden 5-4 (ot) win.

Goal was on power-play, had also team-high 7 shots on goal. Could not find any ice-times from the data, but Pellikka was slotted on the 1st defensive pair.

This guy has too much information in his head and of course he could make some mistakes. He also called Soderblom defansman. Still , there are lots of things for improvement for ASP. Most importantly needs to get faster.

I laid it out. He predicts Cossa is mid. He thinks Mazur is a bust. He thinks both Kasper and Danielsson are depth.

I'd like to hear your thoughts as I think these are significant hurdles for him to overcome to reach his high-end potential. I think I get what you mean about the speed not being as much of a factor on smaller ice, I guess we'll see. But I do think he will have to rely on his very good passing and deception to create space against NHL competition instead, which could limit his game overall, especially in the defensive and neutral zone.

His skating is fine. He is still developing.

I always thought his skating ability was elite but his speed was well below average. I think he looks legitimately slow through the entire video. Maybe you think differently. I guess it could still develop but when you're that good of a skater already, do you think there's that much room for improvement? A bad skater loses a lot of speed with bad technique but I don't think that's the case at all for ASP.

I stopped watching when he was nitpicking how the gap was too large when ASP just skated from the other side of the rink to cover on his off-side.

Yeah I don't see slow. Holl is slow. Just based off the vid I'd say average. I think the bigger ice leans itself more to playing angles and more zone coverage because playing man to man in the open would open up to many lanes to take advantage of.

I do lean more towards ASP becoming your top 4 PP anchor than say a Makar level player. He is quite small and I think will always be semi outmatched defensively at the NHL level. He's going to have issues on the boards. His smarts will make up for some of it, but I don't think he's the guy your are putting out for dzone faceoffs anyhow. But if you can put him on a 2nd pair or with a true defensive anchor guy I don't think it will be a problem.

He's also going to need to work a bit on shot selection 5 on 5 or we may be looking at a Walman special which is hammering the puck into guys shins and getting beat going back the other way. I think ASP is a smarter player than Walman though and will make that adjustment to make sure if he is shooting he's getting it on net or at least down low.
