Everyone keeps saying if you fire Sullivan then you gotta just find another Sullivan.

But isn't that why they hired Dave Quinn? I mean... I sure can't think of any other GOOD reasons, so...

Sarah would be our best left wing.

Yeah but looks aren't everything.

I'm fully expecting the Pettersson trade to be something like Pettersson to Vancouver for Elias Pettersson (defenseman) and a 2026 2nd, with Dubas noting that Elias is a near NHL ready contributor that will slide into Pettersson's old role.

It's a deal that isn't necessarily "bad" but is so underwhelming that it just aligns with the rest of his moves. Just thorough meh.
I would be all over this. I like Elias Pettersson's game. He is the anti-Matt Grz. Exactly what guys like Karlsson and Letang need.

If we could get a 2025 second-rounder, of which we do not currently have, and a solid prospect D like Pettersson, he should definitely take the deal.

If you are suggesting replacing Sullivan with Quinn, just move it along there BWM!

Yeah I like what I've read about Pettersson, my point wasn't to say that was a bad deal. It's just meh. It's the same thing as the Guentzel deal, just a pretty meh overall deal that has quantity over quality.

Add on Soucy to make the cap work and replace Pettersson in the short term and I can totally see that deal happening. It's not bad but it's just so meh.

I would doubt Soucy would be involved in such a deal.

Most especially, with the logic, why the f*** did they not trade Rust dumb ass last year?
Given the full NMC Rust has through this season, I guarantee everyone would have complained about any return the Pens could have gotten for Rust last year, as Rust would have full control over where he got traded to.

The time to trade Rust will be this summer, when his NMC goes away. (Not saying the Pens will do that, just saying that's the timeframe to do so if you want the best possible return).

Looking beyond this trade, what is important is looking at the big picture.

Pens are adding quantity of picks over the coming few years.

Up until now, they have eight extra picks in the next three years, and they are nowhere near done.

With the assets added for Eller, the Penguins have 10 selections in the 2025 and 2027 NHL Drafts and nine in 2026. As of now, they have three first- and four second-round picks over the next three years.

That is what rebuilding teams do. The hit rate on picks is low, especially after the first five or so picks in the first round. So, you stockpile picks to rebuild.

The time to trade Rust was two contracts ago.

The time to trade Rust was before he signed his current deal, imo. The next best time to trade him is July 1st once his NTC drops, and after the dust settles and teams inevitably strike out on signing their guys.
