He’s built like a fridge. He’s short. Shorter than he’s listed as. I think some people will even be a little shocked at his height in an NHL uniform. But he’s thick especially in the lower body and core.

He's stocky and has a lower center of gravity so his lower body seems to be built well, but his upper body is what I was referring to. He just resembled a junior player to me a little bit physically at the WJC.

I think this played at least some part in his reoccurring shoulder injuries too.

I'm not saying it will be an issue, it's just something I've been wondering about. Like I said, I don't know if he's been able to bulk up a bit during the season, but the WJC was only a few months ago, so there might not have been enough time.

The physical rigors of the NHL are tough for young players that haven't developed that man strength and frame yet. We've seen it take a toll on both Makar and Byram, and they're both built pretty well for their age too.

Im just concerned about him getting blown up every other shift.

This is my concern as well. Hopefully his shoulder is 100% healed and he doesn't re-aggravate it after the first big hit from someone like Reeves or Greenway.

He’ll have to learn how to avoid checks at the next level. That will be part of the adjustment.

That's part of why I bring it up. Newhook's style isn't really that of an elusive Sakic like style to spin off hits or avoid contact. He goes into the high traffic areas and takes his lumps in the corners to make plays.

This will be tougher to do at the NHL level for obvious reasons.

It’s time for him to move on from the NCAA.

He’ll start in the AHL and continue his development. There was nothing for him to gain by going back to college.

If he gets injured, he’ll rehab and come back, just like everybody else.

I know, and I don't want this to sound like I'm predicting this will be an issue. It's just something I'm going to keep an eye on.

Long term I think he'll be fine, I'm just wondering how he'll fare physically this year before he has another off season to bulk up some more.

He isn’t physically ready for the NHL playoffs, neither is Byram tbh. And both have to learn not to get crushed with big hits so frequently

The amount of performance bonuses are usually draft pick slotted. Will be interesting to see how Boldy, Knight and York’s come out but 16th overall picks usually do not get the full 850k schedule A performance bonuses. Kaut also a 16 got 425k. Caulfield only got 850k in year 3.

So IF there was much negotiation here I’d say Newhook won it. I’m also curious to see the GP bonus threshholds and if they are attainable or not. A GP bonus is pretty common for NCAA signings. Jost and Makar got them.
Thank you TV
