Confirmed with Link: Avs acquire Casey Mittelstadt for Bo Byram

“Man, he is just so good (Byram) with the puck, he's always got his head up,” Cozens said. “He can skate with it so well, he can log huge minutes. He can play both sides of the game, he's got an edge, and he's just so skilled. His vision and hockey IQ is just, it's incredible.”

It was a whirlwind of emotions for all involved. Mittelstadt and Dahlin are best friends. For some in the Sabres’ dressing room, it was the first time they’ve seen a significant teammate traded. Mittelstadt was beloved. He wanted to sign long-term.

Who are we thinking are the best linemates with him?

I have heard talk of Drouin and Nuke with him, and while Nuke makes perfect sense, I am not sure Drouin does, we would be lining up 2 pass first forwards on the same line.

Feels like:

Mac, Nuke, Drouin/Casey, Rants, Lekky
or
Mac, Rants, Drouin/Casey,Lekky,Nuke

would be best, to allow for 1 pass first guy with 2 guys that can score.

I’m honestly glad to hear Bo is excited to go to Buffalo, and that he’s got lots of good friends there. Hope he absolutely kills it with the Sabres.

One thing I’m quite excited about is that I’ve seen a few comments from Sabres fans talking about Mittelstadt working hard to get better and being a heart and soul guy.

I really hope Landy can come back healthy because a line of Landy-Mitts-Nuke sounds like it should work wonders

I would go
Drouin - Mack - Nuke
Lehky - Shhhstad - Rants

That’s assuming Landeskog is eased in and playing bottom 6.

I want him to choose something he hasn't worn before signifying a new start. Would love for him to choose an absolutely ugly looking number and make people love it.

I have no idea why Manson chose 42 as a jersey number but as a Douglas Adams fan I've always approved.
Ronnie Lott! Cut his own finger off and kept okaying

Wonder if he is depressed, going from Denver to Buffalo. That sounds pretty bad...
It was a down year this season for the Sabres after nearly making the playoffs the year before. Certain things (ahem, goaltending) were very unsettled to start the season, and players who had career years last year struggled this year as the team focused on defense in front of a goalie carousel. That's settled down quite a bit now with the emergence of Ukko Pekka Luukkonen as the #1 in Buffalo. Next year should be an improvement, and Byram should be a part of that.

Looks like he's already close to a few Sabres- guys left to right: Byram, Dylan Cozens, Peyton Krebs, Jacob Bryson.

As for Mittelstadt, his style should translate well to playoff hockey. He was soft early in his career but he's become determined and tenacious with his puckhandling. Good at winning board battles. Has good vision as a passer, not the best finisher (but seemed to be better at that this season). Was the Sabres best 2-way C this year. I'm frustrated with the way the Sabres treated him at the end; felt like a core piece to me, but Kevyn Adams picked Tage Thompson and Dylan Cozens as his top two centers, giving them long extensions, and apparently didn't even try to sign Mitts, knowing he would move him. Krebs has come along but he's not nearly at the same level as Mitts as a center.

Greetings fam. Thought this might be a nice time to pop back in here :)

Love this trade. It's a very logical move from a position of strength to fill the biggest need with a long-term solution.

With Behrens, Gulyayev, and Hanzel in the pipeline the team is still looking relatively strong at LHD organisationally without Byram, so he was a logical piece to move with an eye on the future.

Hope they're also looking at adding a 3rd pairing LHD to push JJ down but it's not a huge need and honestly there doesn't seem to be many great rental options this year at that position. I'd rather stand pat instead of adding pylons like Edmundson who can't skate and would just be Nemeth 2.0 on this team.

Bo wanted out confirmed. ;)

It wouldn't be super surprising, or unreasonable, if he did. Colorado was a terrible spot for Byram the minute they traded for Toews let alone extended him.

Problem is I'm not sure Buffalo is that much better... but if Dahlin truly plays on the right side, it's already better situation than Colorado.

Mitts needs to float less and get into dirty areas more or he’ll disappoint. Skills are there. Toughness? Drive?
This feels like an archaeological take. That hasn't been Mitts issue for at least 2 seasons. He goes to hard areas and succeeds, especially on the wall. He's a useful swiss-army knife at C or W in the top-6.
