Confirmed with Link: Avs acquire Casey Mittelstadt for Bo Byram

Love that so many of you guys are happy with the deal. I'm still not sold on him, especially in a playoff environment, but I hope he proves me wrong. At least there can be no doubt that CMac finally went all-out. Hard not to love that.
Yah thats the only real question mark right now. Either he shows out in the playoffs or he goes phantom on us. We wont know until we see him in the playoffs to properly judge him.

I hope Mitts wears something other than #37. He's worn a few different numbers over the last dozen years.

wore #11 in HS and also once with Team USA (that's taken)
wore #20 in the USHL and also once with Team USA (that's taken)
wore #21 in college (that's retired)
wore #14 in a prospects game (that is currently taken)
wore #22 with Team USA (that's available)
He probably wears #18

I also think these moves are a sizeable upgrade from a defensive standpoint to the roster.

Mits while not elite on that side is quite solid, especially compared to Johansen. Walker is better than Byram. Not long term obviously, but right now he’s the more dependable player.
I agree. We improved on both. Very good trades.

As an Avs fan - former 12 years season ticket holder - I am thrilled.

And admit that I didn't think it would happen.

But we should ALL watch where Casey is positioned in the line up on opening night of the playoffs.

If you are expecting Kadri... you will be disappointed. But if you want Adam Oates (or Nick Backstrom) level playmaking you will probably be delighted.

I've not seen Casey deal with NHL level playoff smash and grab and slash style play. Because he's never been there.

How soon we forget that Bo was arguably the best D-Man for the Avs in SCF vs. Tampa. The kid hasn't had a great year, but there is nothing like a trade to a last-place team and then a contract year to motivate a guy. I imagine he'll be quite a bit better for Buffalo next year.

For sure. We had to let go one of the D anyway, it happened to be Byram. It might bite our ass later but we need #2 center more now.

Adam Oates or Nik Backstrom?

I really hope Mackinnon gets him on his training regime this summer. We might see Bully Mittelstadt next season.

Those numbers average 17.6, but with 37 added it averages to 20.8

Adam Oates level play has my attention, and he'll have some proper wingers here to make that savvy count.

And you have to know that Casey is one excited puppy to have been given this opportunity to play for the Cup. He'll have plenty of veteran support on the ice and in the room to make the most of his role on the Avs.

He won’t be Adam Oates level.

Byram is the kind of dman Dahlin was supposed to be

...Dahlin was supposed to be a ~25-point borderline middle pairing defenseman? Damn, too bad he turned into a bona fide #1 stud.

Anyway, you guys are going to love Mitts. His footspeed isn't amazing, but he never quits on a play, and he has high end hockey sense and playmaking. I feel like a lot of people outside of Buffalo still only know him for the pull-up meme and being rushed into the NHL too early when he was younger, but he's matured into a friggin good hockey player. Buffalo is going to miss him. I'm going to go back to being sad on the Sabres board now.

Jesus ! They are some players you've listed. If we can get that quality out of Casey, hot damned !
