Confirmed with Link: Avs acquire Casey Mittelstadt for Bo Byram

Hard to not be excited by this. Can't have nonexistent scoring depth when your top guys are as good as the Avs are. I have some reservations with Mittlestadt's skating, but he's really skilled and smart. I remember watching the Sabres live last year and Mittlestadt was centering the 4th line with Jost as one of the wings. I don't watch the Sabres too much, but seems he's really earned his place up the lineup.

Happy with Walker too. I don't think I've seen the Flyers play once this year, but I liked him a lot in LA. He'll be a great addition.

No doubt the Avalanche are a better team than they were this morning with possibly more to come.

I also think these moves are a sizeable upgrade from a defensive standpoint to the roster.

Mits while not elite on that side is quite solid, especially compared to Johansen. Walker is better than Byram. Not long term obviously, but right now he’s the more dependable player.

He's a RFA this summer... deal should be 5 or 6 years. Long enough to get through his prime and maybe get that total value up to lower the AAV a touch. Short enough to avoid the pain that will be his mid 30s.

I'm so excited at the prospect of finally being strong down the middle again. Mittlestadt is only 25 on the cusp of entering his prime. Colton as 3C for 3 more years and Ritchie eventually getting a shot in the future. We finally have depth!

Sad to see the Byram situation play out, it just wasn't meant to be with the us. From the injury issues to the down year this year. This move had to done given the current window. I wish nothing but the best for him but it was time.

I take CMacs meeting as PR. They know how Byram is liked by the fans and how much they've marketed him. To simply take a minute and set expectations is a classic move.

I thought it was weird that PR was using Byram for a lot of pregame advertisement this last month. They've been hard selling him.

That'd be as good of defensive and pain in the ass line as there is in the league. I'd personally like one of Lehky or Nuke swapped with Rants to even out the offense.

Still places to improve. You can sell the farm + LOC for one of Buch/Guentzel and move Lehkonen down. You can also slot Kovalenko in for Landeskog if the worst happens.

But a true 4C, bottom pair D, and backup goalie should still be the priority.

Dowd/Edmundson/Lindgren come on down. You can have our 2024 1st + Behrens + Philly's 5th

Hoping Mittelstadt will get the Avalanche bump and score more goals. He had a 59 point season and on pace for 60 this year but 15 goals is the most he has scored. Has 14 this year so he should get 20 or close to it playing rest of the season on the Avs.

This is the move that most of us probably had in the back of our mind. Either Mittlestadt or Cozens. The only questions were why would Buffalo want another LD and which one of Byram or Girard. Happy with this move in a vacuum.

Just hope Sammy doesn't disappear again in the playoffs.

If Landy comes back and they sign Mittelsdadt long term, then this deal isn't just Mitts for Byram. It's Byram + somebody else they can't afford to keep. Like maybe Lehkonen.

If they don't sign Mitts long term, then he's walking to UFA after a couple years.

The Avs are in the middle of their contention window. They’re doing what they can to give themselves the best shot at winning this year and balancing the team semi long term to keep that window alive.

I know it sucks we lost Byram, but the team is in great shape this year to win a cup and continue to compete over the next few years.
