He should worry about his own life in hockey.

Tim Peel is a loser. He's absolutely proof that refs do discriminate against teams, he seems to hate the Leafs and claims textbook penalties are not penalties against the Leafs.

He's claiming *this* isn't a penalty, while claiming Holl was clear interference last year:

Ya. I mean isn't this expected completely?

Every team every year.

Gonna call on Owen Nolan for the response.

I think this is the hand hurt in game 3. Still wonder about the entire season though when he was playing through injury. Maybe he needed surgery again and he wasn't going to be ready before playoffs?

Even Auston Matthews should realize that a massive raise, huge AAV and long term ask would have been predicated on continuing his 2021, 2022 seasons and then hitting the next gear in the playoffs or at least back stopped by massive popularity in Toronto.

But he took a noticeable dip in the regular season, was unhealthy and just seems like the Florida series resulted in some sudden and unexpected reputational damage. And it's not like the Leafs did anything wrong for this all to happen either.
Problem is, it doesn’t matter what the people here want.
As of July 1st, 2023, Matthews, Marner and Nylander hold all the cards. Their contracts were structured for NMC and they will all be UFAs in 2 years. They have had little to no playoff success.
We may not be able to pay what they want as a group, but individually another team can pay one of them what they want. Not 4 of them but one.
People may want to keep so and so, but so and so may be out the door thanks to their contract structure.
Matthews needs to divulge if he plans to sign long term and at what dollar or goodbye. Not you can’t trade a no. 1 C. No, you can’t lose him a la Tavares.

You dont trade the best player in franchise history because he had a bad series. People forget he is PPG over the past 5 playoffs. I would much rather trade Marner. I blame him more than Matthews for the loss. He was turning the puck over all series and looked intimidated and nervous

Wonder if the guys that handed out those clauses talked to each other about them all kicking in at the same time?

What kind of schmuck would I have to be to constantly post on a teams forum that I allegedly hate? (they've unfortunately been my favorite team my whole life, but go off).

If I were just trolling as you seem to imply, why would my posts be exclusive to the Leafs & Kings, the two teams I like? Why wouldn't I be out on the forums of other "large" fanbase teams like the Habs or Oilers?

This victim mentality some of you have is almost as pathetic as that crow eating thread you started after the 1st round, which sure aged nicely hey.
The kind of schmuck that says he doesn't want Matthews on LA, a team he claims to like. He has his flaws like every player, but he just won the Hart last year FFS and is clearly one of the best players in the league so it's hard to take your statement seriously.

Lol while everyone worries about who you can’t trade, having the Dubas core 4 leave UFA, except JT who continues his 5 on 5 decline would be the final Leafiest thing ever.

Agreed. I would only trade him if he can't be signed for a fair price.

Do you seriously think Matthews is worth $13m on a cup contending team? I don't want him on Toronto or LA. Let him to go a trash team like the Coyotes. He can score his 40 goals and not have to worry about playing hockey in the spring.

It's hard to take you seriously if you think hes going to help out a cup winning team at his cap hit

The only thing you absolutely can't do is hold on to him if he doesn't want to re-sign. You can't lose AM34 for nothing. It's not an option.

Other than that, this is going to be a divisive topic.

You sign him. It's 1 mill more than Pasta. They are pretty close, AM is a bit better and the 1 mill difference will yield no difference maker.

(Pasta with the most GWs in a single season since forever, could win MVP this year if not for god mode from already imba McJesus).

But there are red flags like his wrist or lack of heart. We all saw his playoff performance.

IMO and I'm speculating here, it's his overall demeanor that worries me. He can score 60 and it's still a bit frustrating to watch because I keep thinking, what if he cared a bit more or played with some heart?

In conclusion
for $12mill, I'll be watching him smile like a moron when a fight would be an appropriate response. Hopefully not for 8 years @ 14.5.
Pretty much agree but I do think he does care, like a lot too.

Where did this 13 million come from? You said nothing about that in the post I commented on, you just said you don't want Matthews in LA.

If Matthews becomes a UFA and he's healthy, someone will offer him $13M.

Watching the guys on Hockey Night In Canada talk about the Leafs during the first intermission...

E.F. believes Dubas comes back. So do I.

The three (on the panel) made it sound like sucking up to Matthews is in the Leafs best interest. Wow, that didn't take long. Matthews went from being a ZERO in the playoffs to being someone the Leafs need to suck up to in less than 24 hours.

The panel also said they like the fact that the group wants to stick together and they believe in themselves. LOL. Who care what they want and what they believe - we hear the same thing from this group year in and year out.

Not that you want to frame it like "sucking up to Matthews" but it is in the Leafs interest to make sure he's on side and signed to a new deal. That's just protecting the asset and extending an imperfect contending window. Worry about the hot takes later.

Dubas knew he'd be gone if they didn't have success by the time those clauses came to bite the org in the ass, that is why he handed them out. A total coward when you really think about it.

Even if they won 3 Cups in a row it's piss poor planning from a rookie GM who was not ready at the time.

Taking this approach resulted in the lousy deal we have with Matthews now - where Matthews got everything he wanted.

Still in the Keep column but you gotta commit Matthews buddy old pal. You gotta do it before or as the NMC goes active.

Matthews is Engvall levels of soft. Time to move on.

Do soft players play through injuries, hit and block as many shots as he does? He also had a 12 game point streak in the playoffs before hurting his hand in game 3 then went scoreless from that point on. I understand not wanting to fork out more money for a player with injury issues like this but how does anyone figure he's a soft player?
