Let's hope Matty gets healed up ... his play has really gone downhill recently ... and it is probably biggest reason why we are slumping

There is something else wrong with Matty ... he missed practice again ... this wrist thing is only a smoke screen ... he looks notable slower skating wise past 2 weeks ... I can tell just watching games his speed is down like 20% from start of year

They need to watch what they say to the media, they must be very clear.

There's a fine line since anything they say can be misinterpreted.

The fact Reilly is saying this tells me it’s not great.
I think its the opposite. Sounds like its a lingering thing and rielly thinks he should sit for a week or so.

If it was bad and season ending then he would not be saying this

Most likely the Leafs are letting Matthews play because it is not that bad, he wants to play, and he will have two weeks coming up where he is pretty much not playing at all.

All this tells me that next time we play Calgary there’s going to have to be a little chat. That team wrecked our Hart Trophy candidate and emerging platoon goalie.

Matthews is so f***ing filthy.

I grew up watching Sundin, watched Gilmour when I was very young, and Matthews is the best Leaf I’ve ever seen. It’s not even particularly close, really.

Sundin has the better legacy at the moment, playing for so long with so many big moments, but in terms of ability on the ice Matthews is on another level. IMO the 2nd best player in the league, behind only McDavid.

Also, Patty Kane is approaching best American player of all time, if he’s not there already. If Matthews stays healthy, IMO he’ll pass Kane.

This guys scoring toolbox is generational. When he's stays healthy playing with good players I can see him being a goal per game player which is absurd. 23 years old. He's almost been doing that now with a nagging wrist injury all year that's now crippled him to not shoot yet he's still scoring. He certainly hasn't been lucky he's been dominant since game 1 where he was getting really unlucky the first 2 games. 21 goals in 25 games with his shooting % barely above career average; I'm willing to bet he'd easily be at least 25 in 25 if he were healthy all this time. He didn't score 5 games in a row when his wrist became a bigger problem than it had been.

Gotta get this guy healthy again, whatever it takes.

Yes. It matters. It doesn't in the offensive zone, but it can when applying it to exiting your own zone/passing off your backhand.
These guys play in the NHL. They all can and should be able to receive breakout passes on their backhand and be able to put themselves in situations where they can pass using forehand instead of backhand, or even make the proper play with their backhand.

That he could surpass some of Mats' totals by 27 or 28 is special. Hope he and Marner can somehow stay for their whole careers.
