Well they are good friends and train together in the summers. Their families are also close.

funny thing is. The pandemic actually helps probably.

the league will be flat cap for minimum 4 years.
Matthews can sign after 2.

teams will still be recovering. Much less competition from teams pretending they have money.

a mcdavid contract would be pretty appealing I would guess.

What's also relatively easy for MLSE to re-sign Matthews is he's already making close to $12 million, so to bump him up to $14 million or whatever it will end up being is incrementally smaller than another team having to clear out the full $14 million and then have to back fill their roster. Plus if we're good and he likes his teammates, why leave? He's our Crosby/Ovi. Makes no sense to go to a worse team, smaller market to be a mercenary.

marners dad has lost it on radio a couple of times about why Mitch wasn’t considered in mcdavids tier.

who knows how the families act and also. Mid-late twenties men do not have much influence from parents. They aren’t teens anymore.

I guess I am the only win who thinks Drai isn't as good as his point total indicate
IMO, he is a 80 pt player not 100+ point player like he put in his previous year.. or at least his talent level is of a 80 pt player. 35-40% of his production comes from PP and he gets so many freeb points of McD. His adv stats aren't good and he is very poor defensively

Whenever I watch him, I am not as impressed as some of the other superstars. Like even when I watch Pasta or Eichel (not this season), I am scared when they have the puck but Drai unanimously is ranked higher than those. idk. Maybe I can't see it

Hellebuyck is resting tonight, I think that Mathews should too. Load management is needed, similar to what the Raptors did with Leonard.

One thing I don't think I've seen anyone mention over the years: star players of his calibre often try to do too much and hold the puck too long. He *never* does this and is never afraid to dish the puck to a line mate when he doesn't have any space. In fact, I think he dishes it off more than just about anyone. Very rare for someone with his production. Smart player.

Eichel and Draisaitl are on the opposite end of the “eye appeal” spectrum. Eichel has beautiful mechanics and effortlessness (not dissimilar to Nylander) which implies more ability and he’s just scratching the surface. Drai is a ruthlessly efficient offensive producer who isn’t always dominant looking but finds a way to get on the score sheet.

Long story short, I hate them both.

Completely agree. I never notice him when we play the oilers. Mcdavid I definitely notice. Crosby, pastrnak, ovechkin, kane, mackinnon, etc. Very noticeable players. Drai is just there

He takes up a lot of space with his elbows out and legs braced for high traffic areas and can be a bit of a bull in a china shop, but otherwise makes a lot of straight line, crisply executed plays funneled towards the bet. No frills game.

Matthews with 4 days off before a back-to-back, then another 4 days off should hopefully get his wrist to 100% healthy. If not then sit him for 10 straight days to nip it in the bud but I doubt they'd do that as he hasn't been sitting.
