If it wasn't for this moment who knows where things would be today with Toronto.

Look at Shanny face. I love it.

Mahovlich 48 goals as rookie back in a 70 game schedule when 3-2 games were normal. Beat out Hull for rookie of the year.

And then we traded him!

Strange career though - nice start with us then just kinda stayed level through his prime but with injuries kinda fizzled a but....then took off again in his 30s with Detroit and Montreal.

Watching that video over and over on YouTube I can not believe I did not react right away when seeing the Leafs logo once Bill Daly flipped over the #1 card. After he said "The first overall selection in the 2016 NHL Draft belongs to" we see the Leafs logo before he said the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Plus not sure if you noticed this but when he saw for the first time Toronto had won, it looked like he was relived that Matthews was going to play in Toronto and not Winnipeg.

I'll never forget that night. Because I missed it.

The wife talked me into going to a play. Couldn't tell you what the hell it was about. During intermission, I stepped outside, turned on my phone and saw a notification that said "The Toronto Maple Leafs..."

My heart stopped. I had a feeling it would say something like "The Toronto Maple Leafs will have the third selection in the upcoming draft". When I saw that they'd actually won the top pick, I let out a shout. I'm not much for outbursts like that, but it couldn't be helped.

Did your wife at least make that up to you for missing it live on TV?

Matthews 8 game goal scoring streak is over, however at least he got an assist on Hyman's empty net goal and his point streak is still going.
And he didn’t try the high risk shot up the middle there. Dumped it onto the boards for Hyman. Matthews is playing so well right now. Using his body, back checking, stripping pucks, oh and scoring otherworldly goals almost every game.

At least that shows he was more concerned to get the puck out and not risk an icing going for the empty net only up by 1 goal.

Now if they were still winning 3-1 instead of 3-2 does Matthews take that chance and try's for the empty net?

I remembered I was driving home that night and listening to the radio, when they announced Leafs won the lottery, I just screamed and honked and always crashed my car.

If you search "Leafs win draft lottery TSN Radio" on Google you can still listen to the reaction from Brian Hayes and Dave Naylor after it happened.

on pace for 1.25 PPG (103 pts in 82 game season)

when he's on the ice he's getting a point on over 64% of team's goals.

SCA/60 | 21.2
HDCA/60 | 8.6

on-ice SV% .913

These stats definitely are matching the eye test and showing how dominant he's been so far, but also lack of strength of some of the teams we've played thus far. Not going to feel bad about beating up on mediocre teams. Everyone is fair game.
