He checks all the boxes now.
Using his size more to bump players of the puck, elite puck stealer, extremely agile for his size, low 50s faceoff percentage, no McDavid speed-wise but he can fly when he sees a lane, stickhandle in a phone booth, incredible vision, oh and that shot.

Eh he's 23. Hitting his true prime now. This was always coming.

hard to believe Matthews isn't even a consensus top 5 center on the mainboards. not their finest moment

Well even if McDavid was drafted by the Leafs and still puts up his current numbers. The main board will still say he is not a top 5 C with stuff like he can’t play 200 ft game like Sid, Bergeron, ROR, Malkin and Toews.

Even if Matthews was to win the Hart Trophy instead of McDavid I'm sure the Leafs haters on the main board would say how it was the Toronto writers who all voted for Matthews, because there will always try to find an asterisk regarding Matthews.

That argument is funny given Toronto never really wins major awards.

Thi is the closest he's been to earning his contract. But still nowhere near.

He demanded McDavid money when term is included, so I expect McDavid numbers, NO excuses. McDavid has 12 more points than him. So nowhere close really.

You're an absolute disgraced embarrassment.

Matthews is a Top 5 player and absolutely worth every penny.

Are you seriously still complaining about his contract. You're absolutely robbing yourself of the joy of watching the Leafs having a superstar center who could win the rocket trophy year and year out while playing a complete 200-foot game.

Matthews was 3rd in goal scored last year with 47 and he was going to score 50+ goals if all 82 games were played.

It was also the second time in his career he's finished top 3 in goals scored because in his rookie season he finished T-2 with 40 goals.

Mainboards think Benning is a better GM than Dubas. That should tell all what the value of their opinion is.

To be fair plenty of those here on the Leafs board thought that every GM in the league was better than Dubas ... That is, until the Leafs went 9-2-1 to start the season. It seems those guys aren't around here much now but they'll resurface the first 2-game losing streak.
