We have an alleged "Leafs fan" in there who does post on this board (hasn't done it this season probably because the team is doing great) attempting to defend his dumbass anti-Leaf opinions. Won't point out any names cause it gets me infracted, but my god is that portion of this fanbase pathetic.

I’ll tell ya why i agreed with him. Because he’s f***** right ;) Seriously though, Matthews has moved ahead of him as a all round type center. It has something to do with points and scoring. Not fully always points give you your best player. Watch them defensively what they both do. McDavid is poor defensively. Really bad actually. McDavid is 44.3 % career on faceoffs etc. Petrifying offensive player, the scariest. His defensive game as a center knocks him down quite a bit. I think thats what he means. Anyways thats why i agree.

I'm not drinking the cool aid. Sorry. McDavid tries to outscore the oilers problems. I really like Matthews but the weight on McDavid is a lot higher. Holy hell would I hate to see what McDavid could do with a players like Marner and Hyman on his line.

Fully agree. I will say that Matthews is comparable in some ways and I believe he is or will be for sure the second best player on the planet.

But McDavid is incredible! If he played on our top line he would have 140-160 point seasons lol

But dubey left the leafs with no depth how can McDavid have it even worse?

Thats alright champ. I’m not pushing that narrative. Thats just my takeaway right now. We did get Marner 4th OA same year as the Oilers took Mcdavid. Not our fault we managed the second best player at #4 in that draft. Even if we had gotten Eichel it would only be a single player under a million bucks difference. I like Marner’s growth in his game too.

edit: I did say i think McDavid is the most petrifying offensive player. I don’t know if you missed that

With 9 top 10 picks in 10 years, I dont feel sorry for the oilers. Someone should have gone to jail for that.
 
The real question is: When McDavid gets here in a few years to play with his buddy Auston, how amazing will that line be with Marner and McDavid flanking Matthews.

The hockey panel on NBC with Patrick Sharp were just gushing over Matthews last game. Sharp called him the best goal scorer, plays premium position, and the rarity of a goal scoring centreman with size.

Hmm, not sure I agree with this beyond the playmaker vs goalscorer angle. I don't really see many comparisons at all between Matthews and Ovechkin beyond their shots (and even then, they use them very differently). To each their own though!
