Yeah, I've wanted to see that line for a while. Tavares is a more well-rounded offensive player than Matthews, and Nylander is a better shooter than Marner (Although, his accuracy can leave you wanting more). So, it would be interesting to see if Tavares could unlock Willy's goalscoring ability. Marner's ability to create and capitalize by creating passing lanes would be very interesting with Matthews.

unless the Leafs get a shut down C, don’t think JT and Willie will be on a line together, as JT is going to be against opposing top line. At least that’s what I think

He's been amazing lately.

You know you have something special when this kid was always known of his scoring abilities, a pure goal scorer, yet he just managed to put up one of the best assist of the decade from a Leaf.

This tops his spinorama assist to Uncle Leo infront of the net a few seasons ago.

He looks rejuvenated like he's enjoying playing the game again under Keefe .. He and Marner are starting to show what they can do together. 2020 could get fun.
For sure. This team looks like they are having fun. Almost like a load of bricks have been taken off their shoulders.

Second in goals in the league now. I would love him to get a Rocket trophy this year. Not because he owes it to me or any Leaf fan, just because that would make me happy. I think he can score 60 or close to it this year.

The way Keefe loads up lines with top players its all up in the air how much fun and success all these guys are going to have. Willy playing with Tavares Is a nice touch by Keefe to recognize how dangerous these two will be setting each other up. Tavares is a really good set up guy that drives both goals and assists in the past quite evenly. We might see lots of Tavares and likely Willy scores 30 goals minimum playing with JT. Both can pass, both have a shot, Tavares jams the net and cycles excellently and makes play’s off the cycle, Willy is excellent at zone entries and puck possession off the rush. Tavares mentors Nylander better too. I like it.

That assist today was very nice! Good to see auston being more creative and getting more assists. On pace for 40 when his career average was 35 so he has progressed there.

9 points in his last 4 games. Strong 2 way play.

He is still very streaky and I stand by my past criticism but he deserves credit when he is playing well. We wouldn't be on a 5 game win streak without him.

Check it out, the Leaf haters on the mainboard say Matthews is not even a top 5 player in the Atlantic.

****ing hilarious!

The top 5 is hard to narrow down

I’d say 9 of the top 15 players in the entire league may end up being in the Atlantic by end of year

In no order

Kucherov
Barkov
Eichel
Pasta
Marchand
Bergeron
Matthews
Marner
Huberdeau

Not one of them are better than Matthews. All great players, but not better. Matthews is a tier above.

Your team does not have a player even close to Matthews, period. Not even close.

I think this will be Keefe's final form of the top 6

Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Milky-Tavares-Nylander

With the way Keefe uses his stars so far it's going to scary to have those 2 lines playing pretty much 2/3 of any game.

Alternate Willy/Engvall if Willy gets complacent

Modern day Hull and Oates
Hard to compare from different eras but Matthews/Marner play a much faster pace, higher skilled game than those two did.

We always knew they'd be great together. They could go down as one of the all time great duos by the time they are finished.

They’re all better, and it’s not even close IMO. Matthews looks way too lazy and disinterested a lot of times. Plus, he doesn’t even have an 80 point season under his belt yet.

More Matthews fun facts!

Since 2007/2008 when these statistics started being tracked, Matthews is...

(500+ ES min, 250+ PP min)

3rd in even strength points per 60.
1st in even strength primary points per 60.
7th in powerplay points per 60
3rd in powerplay primary points per 60.

Only 1 other player is top 7 in all four; McDavid.

Pretty good company.
