Mikheyev-Tavares-Nylander could be a pretty good line.

I think the only previous, brief time we saw Marner and Matthews together was when they were with Marleau. Who really killed the offense on the line. It's really nice to see what those two can do together with a glue guy like Hyman who can do a lot of the dirty work around the net, win board battles, and open up space for the other two to make plays as we saw on the 4th goal last night.

Honestly its pretty weird that Nylander and Tavare havent played with each other at 5v5 at this point

The only thing I can think of is that both Babs and Keefe seem to like to match Tavares' line against the opposition's top lines, or notice that other teams like to do the same, and that they don't trust Nylander defensively in that type of match up.

Couldn't hurt to try though, especially against weather competition.

It's not that suprising when you consider the kind of coach we had.

He basically decided right away what the best rotation/line construction etc was and wouldnt step off of it.

That would almost be like admitting you're wrong and I dont think he was very interested in doing that.

We were the opposite of creative under Babcock.

Kind of funny how they're using Tavares in a Bozak-like line match role. I guess they want to have the intelligence and versatility out there to chess match the opposition.

That makes some sense, but Babs used Nylander with Kadri pretty regularly when that was the shutdown line. Granted Brown would step in at certain times (late in the game, certain Dzone faceoffs) but it would still be Kadri/Nylander most of the game.

Putting your best playmaker on a line with the best goal-scorer in the league?

What a crazy, insane strategy by Keefe! Clearly this nerd is in over his head.

What we need are more real motivational strategies like "give up possession", "be a real gud pro", "grow taller", and "shut up and do what I say". :sarcasm:

Maybe they had to suffer before the success. This could be the correct path of the prophecies! They were born in the flames of Leafs Hell and will emerge stronger than all around them!

To me, points and goals is one of the indications but a player must not give up on plays and just float around waiting for stuff to happen esp someone who is supposed to be your team best player.
I will give a pass if a player is not scoring goals and getting points as long as they are engaging, skating hard and giving a damn on the ice. Auston has not been doing that for a few games than come the 14 mins game and now he is alive and dominating. You can be in a scoring slumps but you can’t stop playing defense and stop skating.

Jump on the main board for 30 seconds and you will see it is littered with Matthews haters. If you went off of what was posted there on him, you would think he was a 4th line scrub that never scored a NHL goal in his career. It is messed up.

I’d expect it there, I’ve never seen it here.
I think some confuse criticism for hate.

Well, He has bad games just like every other player in the NHL including McDavid. It happens!

That being said, Matthews is 100% a top 5 player in the NHL today. No doubt in my mind. I think you have McDavid and MacKinnon at the top, and Matthews is right there after them.

The mainboards is where common sense and logic goes to die.
