So many things to say about how Matthews has played but as he ties Eichel in points I just want to remind everyone that Eichel had left him in his dust a month ago according to some.

And now just one point under Marchand, 7 under Pasta for 3rd overall. He is now tied with Ovi for 1st in the Rocket race.

One of the very best players in the league, as many of us long expected.

He now has 27 games to score 32 points to reach that 100 mark. That's a 1.15 ppg pace, he currently is on a 1.23 ppg pace. Of those 32 points, I sure hope 20 of them are goals to become the first Leaf ever to reach 60 and one of the fewest overall in the NHL.

I've said earlier this year that he and Andersen are the only two I wouldn't trade. Even when they go through their cold streaks, you have to trust their overall impact on the teams success.

The guy is in his early twenties, and once again scores 40, with 27 games to play, and nobody is surprised.

If he wins the Rocket Richard trophy for the Leafs it will be even more rare than the Leafs winning the Cup. Does the name Gaye Stewart ring a bell? 1945-46 season. Insanity.

No one should be given flack for calling Matthews generational. He’s going to be the next great goalscorer next to Ovechkin.

He’ll end up as the greatest goal scoring centre of our generation. Time to enjoy the ride.

First 23 games with Babcock as coach for Matthews:

14 goals ,25 points - 50 goal, 89 point pace

Since Keefe took over: 32 games

26 goals, 43 points - 67 goal, 110 point pace

I won't say he's on McDavid's tier yet but he's definitely on Mackinnon's tier and in the conversation for 2nd best player in the league IF he keeps his play up since Keefe took over. I think he will and as great as Matthews has been in past seasons, he hasn't shown this level before for this long of a stretch.

This level of Matthews is the 2nd best player in the league IMO.

I don't care if he ever plays physical with those kind of numbers but I'm curious if he has the potential to be that kind of player more often.

What made Ovi so great was that he could produce 50-60 goal, 100+ point seasons but also be a terror in terms of physicality, even Malkin has that element in his game although its only shown on occasion.

Matthews now leads the league in goals and points since December 21st, when he was put on a line with Marner.

19 goals and 30 points in 19 games.

Dubas's mistake was the term, but 11.6 million for a superstar franchise centre. I sign that every time.
Matthews is amazing.

I look at it this way, since the cap goes up every year( at least that what we hope), we want AM to be a Leafs for life... I think having the chance to renew his contract before McDavid and Eichel will end up costing the Leafs less.

MacKinnon and Matthews are very close now.

If Matthews wins the Rocket Richard those people who hate hearing that will need to accept it. Hell even if he scores 50+ and doesn't win it, I say he can still be called a generational goal scorer.
