Did that happen before he scored his first goal last night? If it did than Matthews made them pay the best way possible.

Wouldn't that be something if he finished with 60 goals and 100 points.

He has 20g in last 20 games. Hopefully he can do 21g in the next 28 games. That would be insane.

That said if he hits 50g and 90pts I will be content with his production.

In the past those same people bashed him for having 29 assists in his rookie season instead of 30. Last season he had 36 assists. So when did 40 assists become the new arbitrary number he needs to get?

I remember arguing with those people at how they were dismissing Matthews 40 goals in his rookie season, because all I read was how he only had 29 assists and 69 points.

I honestly don't care that much about assists when it comes to Matthews. Now that's not to say I'm not happy when he gets them because it would mean someone else on his line scored when he was on the ice. So I see nothing wrong with Marner being on his line and him getting assists on goals scored by Matthews.

Now that he's got a coach that believes in him, his play has taken off from where it was earlier in the year under Babcock.

Agreed. Working from the assumption he gets at least 13 more goals this season, he'll actually be ahead of Ovechkin in goals at the same age. Albeit, Ovechkin in less games, because even though Matthews has missed more games to injury, Ovechkin lost what would have been his entire rookie season due to lockout.

Obviously the most impressive thing about Ovechkin's goalscoring is the longevity and general consistency. Matthews will have to prove that over the longhaul, if he does. But I thought the first part of this post was at least interesting.
