Is this the greatest hat trick of all time? This along with new goal song will be the turning point everyone points to.
Cant argue that on Slaf. He looked like Marner in a play off game out there.Pretty sure I watched the entire game and then the Canucks/Oilers game after that, lmao. You think I missed the season opener ? I've missed maybe 5 Leaf games in the past 10 years, I didn't notice Slaf because he was a non-impact player for almost the entire game. You noticed him because he was your recent #1 overall pick. Sorry if you're offended that I thought he actually didn't play because he was that invisible.
My point is he is one of the best players in the game today and is paid like it.Sure, if he continues to score three a game, it will look like a steal. But I guarantee most who had misgivings about it were thinking more what he does in the regular season and playoffs (or rather, not do) when it comes to assessing his new contract.
He’s close, 9 more games to get to 300 than OV.
Congrats to him.

I mean they'll only ever have to outscore a team by 1 goal to win.
Wouldn't 1 work?
They'll need 6 goals if their opponent score 5. 1 won't work. Leafs don't play low scoring 1-0 or 2-1 games. That's why they'll never go far in the playoffs.
To be fair Matthews entire career has been in a high scoring era. No one compares to Ovechkin at this point.
The best defence is a good offence and other platitudes.Offense wins games, defense wins championships. We already know who the Leafs are.
Good on Matthews for scoring goals. It's a consolation prize.
It's close by raw stats, it's not comparable by adjusted stats: Ovechkin's first 7 seasons 33 goals and 126 points ahead of Matthews.
No, old Ovechkin was only 2 goals behind young Matthews, playing in the same scoring environment winning 3 Rockets. Young Ovechkin would tear apart this league.
Fun fact: 25 teams, including both Stanley Cup finalists, allowed more goals than the Leafs last year. They'll need 6 goals if their opponent score 5. 1 won't work. Leafs don't play low scoring 1-0 or 2-1 games. That's why they'll never go far in the playoffs.
Why wouldn't they have watched the CBC color broadcast in the past? One round in six years. You keep pounding that playoff chest and maybe one day you can watch the Leafs play a Stanley Cup final on colour TV.
one player hit the 90 point mark in Matthews rookie season. His 40 goals that year were good enough for 2nd overall. Offense has gone up the last few years but it wasn't like that when he entered the league.
No I didn’t. I just pointed out the color broadcast.Well, if you followed the thread it was Leaf fans that brought Stutzle into the conversation. Its like we were invited.
No, but it was a hat trick. No more or less great than anyone else's. The first of the three was an important milestone for Matthews, and not everyone likes the new goal song.Is this the greatest hat trick of all time? This along with new goal song will be the turning point everyone points to.
2 pointsIn their own barn opening night the mighty Leafs score 1 even strength goal.
Keefe had to shrink his bench, took to double shifting Matthews line ... in game ONE of the season! lol
And they still needed to go to a shoot out to get the win, ........against the lotto-Habs. ha!
Yup, they got the win though, and are moving on to game 2. They would have done the same if it had been a loss.In their own barn opening night the mighty Leafs score 1 even strength goal.

I was pointing you you don't know what outscore means. They'll need 6 goals if their opponent score 5. 1 won't work. Leafs don't play low scoring 1-0 or 2-1 games. That's why they'll never go far in the playoffs.
Not until Matthews does this in a lower scoring era.
So in a thread about the Leafs’ best player getting a hat trick in the first game of an 82 game season, you’re mocking the Leafs for beating the Habs in a shootout? In their own barn opening night the mighty Leafs score 1 even strength goal.
