Auston Matthews back to back hat tricks

Yeah he's only 115 goals behind Sundin for the all time lead, so that will happen pretty easily.

He's 439 behind Sundin for points, so he needs an average of 88 points per year to pass him.

Marner is actually closer to Sundin, behind by 430 points (but has played more games than Auston). Pretty likely they both pass him and they end up the two leading points scorers.

Easily doable, his 82 game average is 93 points and thats including the COVID shortened season so if he stays healthy, no reason he won't pass Sundin.

For the record I can't stand Toronto, it's been that way since I was a kid and I hope I die of old age before they ever win a cup again but Matthews is my favorite player to watch, goal scoring? probably the best release ever with AO a close second and he can score in more ways than any other player since Gretzky. McDavid and his 25 minutes a game and one dimensional offence first and PP points are great for the media and Oiler fans but I would take Auston in a minute over him.

Hogtown and their fans are a bunch of luck-sacs to have him.
This is such a weird thing to say.

If you hate the Leafs and want to die before you ever see them win a cup, then just be a Leafs fan and your dreams are fulfilled, here on this beautiful earth.

Imagine if we had Olympic hockey, how fast the narrative would change here?

I'm not sure if he's the best USA born player OAT, but he's projecting that way just like he's projecting to be the best Leafs player OAT................

Guy opens up the season with back to back hat tricks, and we're already debating playoff stats.

So I guess the Leafs are making the playoffs according to HF?

And just like that Matthews is actually left bettered by a 33yo Ovechkin, who scored 3+4+0 goals to start the season 2017-18. I shouldn't be surprised by the Leafs vs. the lowly Blackhawks but this is the NHL, known for its parity.

Oh yes, I remember the threads from the Oiler fans from that year.

First it was, Matthews isn't even as good as Draisaitl, I can't believe the Toronto Media would have the audacity to suggest he's better than McDavid

Then they he was a powerplay merchant - even though he ended up scoring 44 goals at even strength that year - that would have been good for 7th in the league in TOTAL goals.

Then they said the Hart win was tainted because Toronto Media.

Then he won the Lindsay Trophy which was voted on by the players and the Oiler fans said it was tainted because most hockey players are from Toronto.

Go look up the threads about Matthews from that year, almost every one of them was closed by a mod because of the Oiler fans.

Then they still have the audacity to say Leafs fans are the worst

I've been watching since the late 90's and he is the most purely talented player I have ever seen with the Leafs. Not just his offensive skills, but his defensive skills. He is literally amazing.

He’s right up there with anyone not just Leafs players really. Crazy how people were claiming Marner was better after last season.

What a crappy player. Could not even score 3 Hattricks in a row. Pffffffffff Leafs suck

Oh wait

Auston didn’t get that third hat trick in a row but that’s ok. We can settle for 81 hat tricks in 82 games. Damn you Chicago…..

Being on pace for only 164 goals is kinda embarrassing

Nothing weird about liking a player and disliking the team he plays for, I grew up a Boston fan but still loved the way Darryl Sittler, Guy Lafleur and Bobby Hull and many more played the game. Nowadays I hope Matthews gets a hattrick every game except when he's playing Boston, Ottawa and especially Calgary.
