Yep, Dubas happened.Marner should have gotten 9-9.5 last deal and 10.5-11 on his next deal but we all know what happened there.

It's a disgrace. Being a Leaf means nothing anymore - this franchise has been reduced to an ATM machine for greedy shits who don't even care in the playoffs.13.5 being looked at as a discount is f***ing hilarious. And the Leafs have to fight for a 5th year on that number? Lmao cant make this shit up
What do you think should be the salary difference between the two?Are you saying Marner should earn less than Aho?
Comparing Matthews' upcoming contract to one that doesnt even exist is a craaazyMack's contract is a huge discount according to him though, you have to remember he told the media that, so in reality, he is probably closer to 15 million if he took full value........ 13.5 for Matthews seems fair now
And matthews should have gotten 10-10.5 and 11-11.5 on this deal.Marner should have gotten 9-9.5 last deal and 10.5-11 on his next deal but we all know what happened there.

I always believed that one of Dubas' biggest mistakes that barely gets talked about was when Marner asked for 9x8 the summer before he became an RFA but the Leafs didn't bite. Instead Dubas pulls a "if you have time use it" and Marner has his first 90 point season stapled to JT's wing the first year JT was in Toronto which sends his asking price through the roof.More so it made me more pissed at the marner contract. His threshold should have been 9 or 9.5
His MVP season is essentially his floor being paid an unprecedented amount on unprecedented term.Let’s talk numbers on the ice. At $13.5 million per season what is the regular season floor in terms of production that is expected?
At least 50 goals/100 points on a consistent basis, and no drop off in the playoffs.Let’s talk numbers on the ice. At $13.5 million per season what is the regular season floor in terms of production that is expected?
Few million or so. I believe Marner is a much better all around player. What do you think should be the salary difference between the two?

We're you literally not just posting about how Mackinnon gave Colorado a huge discount? It's almost like I am just poking fun at all the posters who think stars take discounts just because they want to win. No stars do.
At least 50 goals/100 points on a consistent basis, and no drop off in the playoffs.
So about $12.75M is about what Marner should be at for his next contract and it's fair? Sincerely disagree with that.Few million or so. I believe Marner is a much better all around player.
I think Aho was over paid a bit.
I don’t know why everyone defends matthews at all cost. He is a selfish entitled pompous ass. He is not a team player. He has already made a 100 million dollars by playing a game. He has won nothing in his life that exemplifies a team game. Everything about him is to feed his own ego.

*****while conveniently ignoring term.It was generally accepted his deal should fall between Eichel and McDavid which is exactly what happened.
Eichel - 13.33%
Matthews - 14.64%
McDavid - 16.67%

Imagine in 2023 still trying to defend that monstrosity of a contract Dubas cooked up with Matthews agent
There's about 4 of them left on this entire forum.
I don't think there's any justifying it no matter how he performs. Just like his last contract, he's almost certainly going to live up to it and then some. But if he's going to continue to set the example of not making any allowances to help the team out, it's just going to create more headaches. He could easily do what pretty much every other star player has done rather than try to extract every possible dollar. Even if you're only talking about a million or two either way, it could go such a long way in establishing a more team-first cultureLet’s talk numbers on the ice. Holy f***ing hell you guys have some crazy low standards. Not only was the contract, by the numbers, explainable and fair. Matthews also then lived up to it.
Yeah now is the part where we play the imaginary numbers game and bring up wildly unreliable stats like "Primary points per 60" and all that garbage. Goals are gonna count more than assists until it comes time to overpay Marner and the vicious cycle continues. Meanwhile in the land of actual points and goals winning actual games, Matthews has come close to McDavid like once in his entire career. Not ignoring term really at all. Play the actual numbers out and you’d see that Matthews’ rate of production over his ELC put him far far closer to McDavid than Eichel. He only got 14.64 because he took 5 years. 8 years would have been higher and justified.
Never said any of it was fair.So about $12.75M is about what Marner should be at for his next contract and it's fair? Sincerely disagree with that.
