The way I see it, you can play better team defense by committee and structure than for the team to score goals by committee due to its top heavy construction. So a Matthews scoring at a goal per game level in the playoffs at the cost of worse defensive coverage, less shot blocking would give me better value at $13 million than if we got deflated numbers and the team's offense no-shows yet again. If that makes sense.

Same second round results, but I prefer the trade offs Draisaitl gives to his team. And I hate Draisaitl and have always believed Matthews has a better skillset. It just needs to translate into real offense.

His ES was flat out better than McDavid and Drai, they dominated on the PP. You can add that component with a healthy wrist without needing to turn him into a floater at ES.

Anyone could be traded at the draft.

Doesnt matter how you score, a goal is a goal.

Thank you for the meaningless catchphrase. Defense wins championships, build from the net out, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Is that all of them?

The context of the conversation is that our PP not scoring at 50% like Edmonton’s is not caused by Matthews blocking too many shots at ES. You can have a guy who plays good D and wins his ES minutes and still gets crazy numbers blasting shots on the PP.

Instant gratification doesn't come fast enough.

It appears the Leafs follow the John Kenneth Galbraith method of compensation.

If you want the rich to work harder, you give them more. If you want the poor to work harder, you give them less. The rich get richer and the poor stay poor.

Only a rich man would think that was a good idea.

Let's just keep rewarding failure. Losers giving raises to other losers to keep losing. I'm sorry, but that isn't the definition of insanity.

It's the definition of stupidity.

Either Studs'n'Duds was wrong. Or the Leafs implemented it wrong. It's either one or the other, there is no other choice.

Trading a stud sounds crazy.

The ravings of a madman. But keeping them together sounds even crazier. Or stupid.

I guess that depends on how you view your glass.

I'm sorry, but asking a fan base raised under the "your way, right away" banner to wait longer still, after already waiting over fifty years, is like sticking your chin out and asking the "greatest fan base in the world" to punch it.

We've waited long enough. We want it all. And we want it now.

Right now.

Last day to concentrate on signing AM, then a dual focus must start...sign or trade, which ever comes first.
Would you trade even up for Makar?
Would you accept 3 first round draft choices?
Would you take Karlson and a first rounder?
Would you trade to Chicago for this year's first rounder?

Not saying these are possible, but losing AM for nothing next July is 100% wrong!
He plays fast a loose over $1m bucks per yr. but what he is really doing is playing with MY desire after 56 flippin yrs to see a Stanley Cup victory.
Screw you AM, get on the wagon or leave the Ponderosa.

Makar for Matthews - probably but Avs won't
Three high picks - yes
Karlsson + first - no
Matthews for Bedard - probably but Hawks won't

Matthews for MacTavish + #2OA + 2nd - probably but Verbeek won't

Thats quit the raise. If he wants to max earnings let him take a 3-4 year deal at $12.5. My concern is he is going to want a short term deal and still get the most money in the league.

I wonder how many teams out there would be willing and able to give him that kind of deal. Even if another team can afford it and has the cap space, it would mess up their cap structure like Tavares did with us. Using Carolina as an example, imagine they paid Matthews $13 million for 3 years, Aho would ending up costing probably $3 million more because of that contract. There will be a trickle effect.

At least with the leafs they already f***ed up their cap because of these clowns.

The point is, take NOW what we can, not nothing next year. He also has to prove where he wants to be. If free agency is his goal for money, good bye, if he wants to be elsewhere, goodbye, if he wants to be here, sign, NOW, before June 22nd when he has forced us to open other potential solutions.
If Shanny, Treliving and Tannenbaum have not got their final ginal financial position on table by tomorrow, they are wrong. If AM hasn't got his final position on the table he doesn't want to be here.
Time to poop or get off the pot, screw the relationship and nice nice bs. I want a Cup, with or without AM. He hasn't taken me even close to the dance floor, I am not prepared to buy another drink.

Would you trade WNylander to save money so AM gets $15m. Not me....
It is not because I love WN, it is just bad business, go from 4 great players to 3 because 1 is selfish.
You get the best trade value from dealing AM...do it.

It's been mentioned 1000's of times. He can't sign until July 1.

First question Tre should have asked Matty is "do you want to be here"? If no, you ask him to give you a list of teams he will extend with and you start taking bids immediately.

I am assuming the answer was yes and the Leafs did not freak over his ask so a deal might already be done or will be done on July 1st when it can become official.

I am guessing they will want to throw their pissed off fans a bone on July 1st by announcing a Matty extension.
