8.8-10 you?
I think you're right (again). Which means Marner will want $12 ish. The numbers are really getting up there.

Let's split the difference and say Nylander is $9.25, Marner is an even $12M, Matthews comes in at $13.75 and Reilly is at $7.5M.

Is the team willing to pay for JT and, if so, how much?

Treliving gave Huberdeau 10.5.
I expect Matthews 14, Marner 13, Nylander 10.
See you at the next rebuild.

8 years at $14mil/per for a playoff choker with wrist issues, what could possibly go wrong.

Matthews 9 goal 11 assist in his last 18 playoff game 1,11 pts/game what a chocker, number of gm without any point (4 in 18, 22%)

Tkachuk 12 goal 13 assist in 20 game, 1,2 pts /game what an amaizing player, number of gm without any pts (5 in 20 25%)

Just fun seeing leafs fan giving all credit to Tkachuk because as a team, Florida reach the cup and all the blame on matthews for team failure...

Who is the best player in the division then?

Please say Kucherov so we can tear that opinion to strips .... please.
Or Pastrnak.
That'd be better.
Tkachuk is too easy to dispute.

Maybe an old Crosby?
Are you saying Kuch is not better than AM this past regular season? I think he had the highest points total in the division. When it comes to playoffs, AM did disappeared but so do Kuch and Pastra but not Tkachuk. I would even say MM was a better player than AM in the past season, yet both disappeared in the playoffs.

I think its more that, when it counts Matthew T is there playing and getting points... AM sometimes yes other times is invisible. He will get points in games that dont matter or that we are killing teams.

There is a BIG difference between what Thachuk/Matthews were willing to do away from the puck.

Like tkachuk, if brobrovsky was not there... Tkachuk didn,t scored exemple in ot gm 1 and 2 vs carolina, he didn't score OT goal gm 5 vs boston ...

When it count

-Gm 3 he scored an important goal to give a 2-1 lead scrap by a weak goal allowed by Samsonov....
-hes the main reason why toronto came back gm 4
-He gave a chance to his team to come back gm 5
- gm 6 he scored imlortant 1st goal of the game late in 2nd

Gm 1 vs florida made a great play to knies to come back at 2-2

Gm 1 last season, lead the way

Gm 5 game winning goal
Gm 6started the come back
Gm 7 made a great play to tie the game

Away from the puck

Matthews last 18 ( this season and last season)
Scoring chance 108
Hdsc 45
Takeaway 23
Hit 70
Hit taken 30
Blocked shot 28

Tkachuk last 20 ( this off season)

Scoring chance 65
Hdsc 50
Takeaway 12
Hit 58
Hit taken 30
Blocked shot 7

Youre right Matthews outplayed Tkachuk away of the puck, he gave more hit, taking more hit ( if youre considerate 2 game less in his case), 2X number of takeaway, 4X number of blocked shot
The solid 0 goals in the Florida series was exciting

And How many goal tkachuk scored vs toronto?

We've virtually have lost all power. If he says he won't sign with any team and wants to become a UFA, what team will give you close to market value for him ?? Tre could be in a worse position with Matty than he was with Tkachuk. All thanks to Shanny and Dummy.
Trade him now

They can’t work a deal out until July 1st
Yes they can, just cannot sign it, but announce agreement

I don't know what to say because Tkachuk was game / series changing and Matthews was invisible.

1-
How many cup do you think kucherov would won if vasilevskiy is not there? The answer is pretty easy, its 0

Colorado not just because of mackinnon, how many round mackinnon had won at 25? 2

Draisaitl how many round won at 25? 1
Mcdavid? 3

2- youre comparing a TEAM SUCCES to an individual player, winnong a cup its not 1 player

Did he deserve to be highest paid player? Yeah and it will be probably for only 1 season... next season Draisaitl will probably sign higher deal, in 2 year it will be mcdavid, in 3rd year maybe it will be Bedard
Fair point but all these players took less to ensure the personnel were around to have a SC contending team.

The answer is he doesn’t deserve to be the highest paid player, period-there is no reason he should be made that other than sycophant fans and media suggesting he should get 13-14 million per. At this point AM is living off his draft status and one season for the ages.

The Pressures on the Team Are More and Different, However …

I know the Maple Leafs are feeling the pressure of trying to work out a contract negotiation with Matthews. New general manager (GM) Brad Treliving feels tons of pressure as well, and those are apparent for most people.

Everyone sort of gets it from his point of view. But what about Matthews’ point of view? What pressures might he be experiencing?

To think that a 25-year-old kid – even if he is highly skilled and already wealthy – doesn’t feel pressure is silly. In this post, I want to discuss some general pressures a player might face when deciding to re-sign with a team.

Pressure One: Meeting Team Expectations:

Matthews is a successful and highly-valued player. If he really cares about this organization, he likely feels pressure to meet the expectations of the organization and the team’s fans. Sure he wants big money, but he also wants to continue to play at a high level. He also wants the team to be successful; and, that’s something that it hasn’t yet been.

Pressure Two: Balancing Financial Considerations

Money can be a two-edged sword. It would take a real narcissist to take the money without trying to give back to the team. You have to believe that Matthews would like to earn as much as he can; but, he’d also like to carry this team to success so he would feel that he earned his salary. Matthews is already established and well-paid. However, he could still feel pressure to earn the lucrative salary he will be paid.

Pressure Three: Meeting Personal Goals

I have to believe that NHL players of Matthews’ calibre have personal aspirations. They want to win Stanley Cup championships, earn individual success, and build a long-lasting legacy. Matthews might consider whether re-signing with the Maple Leafs aligns with his long-term goals and aspirations. Does he want to be remembered as the best player in the history of this singular Original Six team?

Pressure Four: Team Chemistry and Future Direction

Given how Matthews has spoken about his teammates, you’d have to think playing with some of his close friends would impact his decision as well. Matthews’ friendship with other teammates or even the coaching staff is likely important to him. He’s built long-standing relationships with some of these guys and you’d think he like to win a championship with them in the future.

Pressure Five: External Factors

Outside influences, such as media scrutiny and fan expectations and his relationships with the city of Toronto also add pressure to his decision-making process. Matthews has to consider how his contract negotiations and his eventual decision could impact his public image and relationships with fans (and perhaps his endorsements). Face it, it would be so much easier for him to escape to a less-pressured situation where the expectations were barely visible in the market in which he played.

There Are Pressures on Matthews

The truth is that the pressures on the Maple Leafs’ organization are huge. However, it’s important not to forget that Matthews also feels pressures. He might handle them well in public; however, for a young man with huge self-worth and (even) perhaps ego, they exist nonetheless.

Obviously, the pressures on any individual player in the NHL vary based upon his personal traits as well as by the context in which he plays. In this post, I tried to consider Matthews point of view. Obviously, speculating on any specific pressures that Matthews might be experiencing in his contract negotiations is guesswork.

However, I don’t think that it’s guesswork that he is experiencing pressure. Anyone who’s human would. The surprise would be if he were not.

How many times have our boys become true focal points of games.. whole games. Not segments or 10 minutes..or every 5th shift.. but games.. honestly

How many times have they become "the" story being told
And How many game we didn't saw Tkachuk of the game and oups scored a important goal and became a star and considerate like he was playing at high level all game long... probably as much if not even more than Matthews...

like 4 game vs carolina where he looked like an amaizing player because he scored clutche goal.. but sorry outside of his 2 ot goal and late 3rd... he was pretty quiet and if Bobrovsky is not totally amaizing, it would be considerate like a pretty bad serie for him.

The only difference at the end, Matthews team lost and Tkachuk team win

Oh jesus.. you are arguing with someone else about tkachuk not me.. keep it there

I asked an independent frustrated question about our guys.. any year

Insert American Born player here playing for a Canadian Team: Noah Hanafin

Refusing to stay with current team: Calgary

I’d be surprised to see AM34 stay.

The problem with all of this for me is Im not in the run it back crowd so doesnt matter what they sign for if they all re-sign. Just more of the same as far as Im concerned but for more money...yay. If they all stay I hope they prove me wrong but Im not holding my breath. All individually very good players but collectively, I dont see them having the right stuff to make a serious dent in the playoffs and with how much cap is allocated to just them, thats not a good scenario.

And Kucherov has a history of showing up big in the playoffs, that whole team needs a long rest.

I think that's what's driving all of us crazy. It's the same old, same old, but, as you said, for even MORE money. If I didn't want the Leafs to win the Cup so bad, it would be funny.
