Do you mean the Florida team that made it to the final and just finally ran out of steam……those guys
The playoffs are a crapshoot. Saying the Leafs would be winning or losing or doing ballet at center ice is all pointless. Our teams issue is we gave up too much cap space to 3 forwards. That is it. Nylander is fine at his cap hit, as is Reilly. In my delusional alternate timeline, Treliving is able to trade JT for an elite defenseman.

Don't wake me up unitl I find out who that is....

You're assuming Auston is watching tonight's game.
LOL touche, Papi's got bigger fish to fry

giphy (20).gif

I guess your bigger, stronger, better team fizzled out?

How effective have Tkachuck and Barkov been in the finals.
Maybe we could get ourselves some of those types of playoff warriors!!!
No idea what you're talking about but you do understand hockey at a higher level than most as you like to say

I think they got beat by a bigger, stronger, better team.
It’s like the ocean. One fish eats a fish, another fish eats that one and then the biggest fish eats that. Be the biggest fish.

Auston is arguably the best forward to ever play for the Leafs. What they sign him for isn’t the problem.

That being said, what others on the team then expect for salary will be the problem.

Man I can just picture Auston watching tonight's game, how fired up Mark Stone is, how his teammates are jacked by his performance and his teams success. I can picture Auston thinking to himself:

"I bet they'll give me $14 x 3 if I play hardball"

Probably wondering how he can circumvent the cap next year

One really has no bearing on the other so the self deprecating tone really doesn’t make any sense

Actually they do.

One team started from nothing 6 years ago and have 1 cup, 2 finals appearances and many rounds won.

The other team is an O6 and has 1 series win in 20 years.

Its honestly embarrassing.

Even Seattle has the same number of series wins as us in 1/10 the amount of time (2 years vs 20)

So the self deprecating tone really does make sense.

My sentiments exactly. Some just don’t get how bad stuff like this makes the leafs look

Everybody called out Dubas even before the pandemic the moment the contracts were signed. The GMs across the league were stunned, media personalities (excluding dubas shills) were all questioning the reason and logic behind those contracts. Heck even Leafs fans such as my self were questioinning what the hell is up with these contracts

Eichel, McDavid, Draisaitl as examples all signed 8 year deals. there was no reason to not sign them for 8 year deals at a reasonalble cap hit. Hell even Aho when he signed his deal with the canes for 5 years there was no NMC/NTC in his contract.

Rantanen also just got modified NTC.

The contracts that Dubas signed were ridiculous and at the detriment of the franchise. Any other spin on it is just defending dubas at the expense of the franchise.

Dude I am done talking to you. You take part of my post and spin it and mvoe goal posts and do not address the rest of the post.

Cheers!

Not only were our rfas given more money than their comparables, they also signed for less term, especially Matthews, and they got most of it in signing bonuses and front loaded.

They are, imo, the most player friendly deals in the league.

The flat cap is just an excuse for dubas' awful negotiating.

LV, FLA, TB, DAL, all have significantly less taxes across the board than most, if not all, of the CDN teams.

Those teams have a much easier time attracting talent with team-friendly contracts. The CDN teams will always get hosed in contract negotiations.

You are correct but it does not seem to be a problem for the guys who come here for peanuts. It's only the stars that hose us and they hose us to the max. At this point the Leafs are a joke top down.

Watching the heart and drive of the Vegas team, their execution not “almost”, the team should offer a pay cut to our failures. A raise is hilarious on so many levels.

Or the league could just give us 10 million more to use like Vegas.

This is spot on and irrefutable to any fair observer. A group of ReFfingA’s were able to extract TOP dollar, with the dollars given UP FRONT, with SHORTER terms, letting them go to UFA EARLIER. Dubas was rolled by all of them, I actually can’t think of a comparable, literally gave the players everything, he bent on every consideration. That we actually sit here with Matthews poised to be a UFA at 26, despite the contract he signed, it’s actually a sad failure. If you can spin those contracts, you’re spun.

I don't know if I blame Dubas anymore for the contracts.

He let Nylander sit out until the last day and looked like he was poised to do it with Marner too, but it was well noted that Shanahan intervened and joined the talks too before a deal got done...

I don't think the guys at the top have any kind of stomach for turmoil or disruption. They want the money printer to go brrrrrrrr and don't care about the cup at the cost of regular season success.

Would you do JT for Doughty with money retained on Doughty?

Totally agree .the pro RUN BACK THE CORE crowd just wants their leafs sat nite to be more wins than not .
Never win but make gobs of money

Yeah and the guys who gave hometown discounts just warned the leafs that the core 4 was dysfunctional
Maybe dubas left because shanny is the one that is useless
