With Marner set to return I like his chances for 70 now. Also not allergic to empty nets anymore.

Cool story. AM34 is the best scorer in the world, but it does not change the fact that McDavid is in another stratosphere. He will end up with more assists than AM34 points, and as many primary assists as AM34 goals.

Perhaps but this thread is about goals so literally NONE of what you said actually counts.

Maybe he’ll empty net his way to 70

If he does so be it he's owed a few empty net goals

Ehh, why do you say that? The advanced stats show he's one of the luckier guys in the league.

Because 60 of his 62 goals have come with a goalie in net, he's owed a few empty net goals.

Beyond that though IF he were to get there it doesn't matter how.

70 goals is 70 goals regardless of how it's done.

His empty net goals recently have been pretty unimpressive as it is - empty net goal merchants are meh. If he keeps this up I don’t think anyone will be impressed at his final goal total.

Anyone would need a little luck to hit 70 in the NHL. Btw he's shooting 18.8% this season which is just slightly over his career average. Which stats are you referring to?

The trolling leaf fans as a day job. Hope you get paid well.

Im pretty sure any normal hockey fan would be impressed with 70 goals pal. Everyone is already impressed with 60. Heck 50 is impressive.

Sens have had one thing to celebrate. Raising CHRIS NEIL jersey to rafters LOL. Top 10 all time hockey player IMO

I can’t tell if you’re being serious….

First by the premise alone

Second, his tonight came after 2 strong defensive plays to gain possession and clear the zone trying to close out the game, that is an unimpressive EN goal?

Is there another professional sport where an absolutely elite talent like Matthews gets so frequently underrated due to pettiness? The degree of cope and borderline delusion to pull it off is almost impressive. This must be the most unserious enthusiast forum on the entire internet. Who would come here for genuine hockey discussion? Absolute clowns

60 out of the 62 goals that Matthews has scored this season have been non-empty netters. Literally not a single person thinks he’s an “empty net goal merchant”, because that would be idiotic.

What I find interesting is that through the first half of the year the leafs won as many games whether Matthews scored or not, but that completely changed after that.

Stayed consistent and it paid off.

I felt the same way when I saw Tim Stutzle was 9th in the league in the NHL in empty net goals last season.

20th in the league in goal scoring last season but he was top 10 in empty net goals. Meh.
