McDavid has not done anything close to this.
McDavid has only cracked .6 goals per game one time in his entire career (.780) and it's pretty clearly an outlier.
Matthews has seasons of .788, .822, and now over .9 goals per game.
His CAREER goals per game is .639, and again, McDavid has only hit that number once in his career.

Yup. Posters like that continue to show how under rated he is

and the other four players who have equalled and/or bettered AM34 ? How is your boy "the best" when you include them ?

I never said he was the best. But he is clearly the best of his generation. And his goals per game trails only Bossy and Lemieux. That's some elite, elite company.
The point I was making is that McDavid is not in Matthews' league as a goal scorer.

Speaking of McDavid, I wonder if he'll break 30 this year.

A mark he has reached in each of the past 7 seasons? Not much to wonder about.

When omitting his lowest and highest totals from the past 7 seasons, which is the first year and the last year, he’s proven to be about a 44 goal scorer (193 goals in 360 games). After 2 in his first 11 this year (while injured), he has 10 in his past 18, or nearly 46 goals/82 games.

Considering his most recent output was 64 goals and he’s back on track after playing while injured, one should be willing to give some benefit of the doubt and not wonder if he can only score 18 goals in his remaining 51 games.

Better to wonder if he’s kept away from 50 than 30.

He's on pace for 33 so it's not as unreasonable as you make it seem.

He was on pace for less than 15 with 13 team games in the books. Now it’s 33 with 31 team games in the books. It’s probably going be 37 after tonight, if he pots a pair of goals against the Sharks. Pace, particularly when using anomalies, is worthless.

I’ll stick with knowing who the player actually is, his more than large enough sample size of being a top scorer, and watching him actively battle an injury while playing for a period of 8-10 games, after being rushed back early because his organization was desperate.

Bossy shot close to 25% for a decade

That’s just unbelievable

No one has equaled or bettered Matthews in goal scoring since he’s entered the league.

Not pasternak, not Ovechkin, not Mackinnon and not even McDavid.

Matthews has more goals than all of them
Play offs
Draisaitl scores at a 55 goal pace.
Matthews scores at a 35 goal pace

Yup

Needs 22 goals over his next 18 team games to join the official club.

After losing his streak in his prior game, I hope he quickly builds another, instead of falling back 0.9 GPG again.

Matthews staking out a, very early, potential claim to Gretzky's goal throne?

He’s pacing that direction, but there is way too much that needs to go his way for the next … 13 years to even begin speculating

The only reason this would even come up is because it’s topical with Ovechkin being so close.

Without Ovechkin bringing the conversation to the forefront, no one would ever dream of saying something like this.
