He won’t because he missed a game, so it won’t technically be 50 in 50, because the county officially ended when he missed that game. It’s still a great achievement if he gets 50 by his own 50th game but it won’t count.

I forget the season but Gretzky had a regular season scoring steak officially end at game 82 (or whatever it was that year) and it didn’t roll over to the following year even though he ran out of games before he stopped scoring. Like the 50 in 50 it’s just the way it is.

50 in 50 is purely about scoring 50 goals in the teams first 50 games, it has nothing to do with the player consecutively playing in those games.

I thought with Phil the issue was it was HIS 50th game but not his team's? Still an impressive feat either way.

The post you were replying to was right as well......doesn't matter how many games Matthews misses; if he gets his 50th goal by the Leafs' 50th game he's accomplished something very few before him have ever done.

As it stands, he's technically at 30 in 36.

Not sure what you are talking about. The count officially ended when he missed a game? No, it didn't, it just makes it more difficult as he has one less game to get there. So for him to get to the official 50 in 50 club, he'd need to do it in 49 or less games played.....if he doesn't miss another game, his team's 50th game will be his 49th game. It's not happening this year......or at least, not likely at happening, but not impossible.
