The sad thing is you’re trying so hard to make it clear to the world that he’s 1 game shy of the teams 50th. Instead of insisting on a negative spin, why not also mention that the unofficial 50 in 50 has not been accomplished in 18 years and even if it’s 1 game shy of the official record it might go down as one of the biggest single player accomplishments in the modern game.

Do you not understand why it would be harder and rarer to do something during your team first 50 games than during a player first 50 games ? That seems almost impossible.

It is not 32x the chance since the time frames overlap. If you don't come close to it in the first 50 games you will be have a near zero percent chance to do it in any 50 game stretch. If you come close in the first 50 games you will have a good chance to do it in some other 50 game stretch.

It's also definitely easier to do it in the first 50 games than any other specific samples because PPs generally go down as the season goes along.

You do realize that the year he scored 50 in a 50 stretch, AM only had 31 goals in his team's first 50games, don't you? That's not clsoe

I'm becoming more and more in awe of this player. Very unreal. Almost feels like the next stage of his career should be in NYR or LA but I don't think the Leafs will ever lose a bid war on him. Hope he and his want it because I can't imagine a scenario where this man leaves the city at least from a city, province and country perspective. With McDavid having an off year so far Matthews is distancing himself as the biggest star in the game.

The scorekeepers don’t care about 50 in 50. They care about their job.

I've seen Gretzky , Bossy , Hull , Ovechkin and McDavid do what AM is doing .
He is now among the best.
Calling him the best is either homer-ship or you are just quoting his mother. Which is understandable.

McDavid has not done anything close to this.
McDavid has only cracked .6 goals per game one time in his entire career (.780) and it's pretty clearly an outlier.
Matthews has seasons of .788, .822, and now over .9 goals per game.
His CAREER goals per game is .639, and again, McDavid has only hit that number once in his career.
