it's almost as if these numbers are based on november of last season 11,874 and november of this season 13,764 which is an increase of 15.9%, congrats on your first post though...

Speaking of games in atypical places skewing numbers … both Buffalo and New Jersey being near the bottom makes me wonder if the handling of the Prague games is mucking with the attendance numbers.

Even being near the bottom 2.7% is such a small amount it doesn't even matter. It's a difference of 445 people.

Even Pittsburgh who is at the bottom is only 963 people.

NYI down is not surprising. Novelty of UBS is over, prices have increased, they decreased available parking in the garage and now you gotta park a half mile walk away north of the Racetrack. Team is mediocre. Equals down attendance.

I believe accessibility/location of the home arena is a huge factor for hockey. You cannot have an arena outside the city and expect continued success. That was a problem in Phoenix that lead to their demise. Sens have that issue as well.

At least with UBS Arena, you can take the LIRR to Belmont. Hell, you can even take it to Queens Village if you want to walk.

Agree. NYI fan base is mostly on the Island Proper, when they were at NVMC public transportation was non existent it was car or nothing to get to a game. The move to Barclays shifted that and the fan base had to adopt the LIRR to get to games.

The move to UBS is a little bit of a hybrid. A lot of LI based fans still drive, and they did build an LIRR station at the arena but it empties out a half mile away from the arena itself, you have to walk a half mile around the track to still get to UBS or board a shuttle bus.

NYI fans are (rightfully) upset at the team because there's a brand new world class (read that as world class expensive) high end retail village that opened up this year that ownership decided was important enough to axe 75% of the available parking spaces in the Parking Garage. The garage is much closer to the arena and ownership prioritized giving shoppers access to those spots over the fans.

Combined with $20 beers $15 chicken fingers $40 to park a half mile away and the team being mediocre, this is the result.

Spot on. When you put an arena off to the side of the city it practically excludes the other side of the city from going to games. No casual fan is commuting across a city at rush hour to go to games

I mean, I do this every time I go to a Devils game from Herald Square, but the PATH train is an exceptional transit option. You don't even need to use a different way to pay- either a MetroCard or your phone will get you through.

You can also go there via NJ Transit, but why the hell would you do that? Too much hassle and more expensive. I guess the LIRR might be the same way. The walk doesn't bother me too much because you still have to walk from Newark Penn Station in order to get to The Rock. I don't think it's a half mile but it's a few blocks away.

Do you have the game by game attendance for the teams? Some of this can be explained by nuance. Sabres have had multiple games conflict with the Bills (who are a top 3 team in the NFL so they will for sure carry draw) and one "home game" out of the Country, I believe in a smaller arena.

Would just be nice to see the game by game records.

I mean what do you expect. The team has an awful coach you should have been fired years ago. They have been blown out so many times this year even by mid teams.

The only hope is to make their wallet hurt until he is fired since the owners are his BFF's

Tbf, their arena is tiny compared to everyone else. if it was a normal size say 17 or 18k and it was up this much, it would be more impressive. Jmo. But I’m glad fans are coming back. This is proof that if you put out a good product ppl will show up.

Suggest normalizing the scale based on 100% attendance for each team. Then we could see the relative health of ticket sales.

For example, WPG-15.9 % of what?

15.9% of 80% average attendance (92.7%) or 15.9% of 50% (58%)
