Attendance changes so far this season

I was looking at the numbers and the Devils have been averaging a little less than capacity. Most of their games have been sellouts. It's a more diverse crowd of fans than the bad days when it was still not poorly attended, but mainly attracted bottom feeders.

I feel like the league is at its best when NJ, NYI and NYR are all good competing. There is nothing like the NY rivalries.

to be fair to Pitts I wouldn't pay money to watch Mike Sullivan shit all over the franchise either

The Penguins I think are a tax write off for FSG so they're apt to keep Sullivan as long as they like.

Honestly I hope FSG (since they are Boston based) might be a good idea to move to Hartford and get the Whalers back. Quebec even, since they are closer to getting the Nords back.

Lirl @ Vegas fandom already dropping 2 years after they just won a Cup.

Everything’s fake in Vegas including loyalty I see

I find it amazing that Columbus has a more loyal fanbase then Pittsburgh given that Pittsburgh (undeserving) had a NHL team since 67.

Good on you guys, I'm rooting for Columbus to turn things around.
(Non-OSU) Ohio sports fans are used to heartbreak. The Jackets are just one more on the pile with the Browns, Bengals, Guards, and Reds. We ain't quitters.

Nice to know there are enough rich transplants to keep the Rangers stable despite their prohibitively expensive tickets.

It's still a drop, which surprised me.
As already beaten to death, likely thanks to the Dodgers hangover in October

It's mostly fans of other teams invading their barn 😂
I haven't checked, but ticket prices might have gone up too.

Obviously incredible bounce back by the Jets. Panthers as cup winners make sense. Any that stands out from the list to you?

Sullivan is finally putting the Pens as a top team in something!

Like getting the most fans to say "nah I'll stare at paint dry instead of watching the Penguins."

Looks like the Penguins need another Mario/Sid to rescue the franchise.
Any generational talents eligible for the draft on the horizon they can tank for?

Just kidding, not meaning to pile it on the Pens. I'm disappointed they're not better as Sid deserves to go out on a playoff team at least, if not a champion team (as of today, a long shot the former, zero chance the latter).

I never went to the Meadowlands but that arena looked so damn depressing on tv.

It looked dark, there were patches all over the ice, and it didn't sound like a great atmosphere either.

I remember it had those boards with the blue kickplates for a while, too. I miss when arenas had little character things that set them apart, like the boards at Montreal Forum looking like some guy made them out of wood in his basement

Ghettolands arena is probably a lot brighter place today. I believe it's a shopping mall or something like that

Not sure why anyone would pay to watch the Pens this year. You’re likely seeing a loss, it’ll just be sad, why on earth is it on fans to pay money for a bad product?
Not only this, but they’re still trying to charge premium prices. Lower the cost of tickets to reflect the inferior product and more people would go to see what they are currently trying to pass off as hockey.

People overlook that FSG also got the developmental rights to the Civic Arena site across the street in the sale and stand to make a lot of money off that if they ever get it built.

The Pens will become an afterthought to FSG and Sid will buy us out of bankruptcy in 12 years. Circle of life.

Teams tanked before the Pens and teams tanked after. It's always been comical that the Pens get crap for it when the Oilers did it for like a decade and teams were purposely tanking for the likes of Celebrini, Bedard etc. Those teams stripped their rosters, weren't going bankrupt, hired idiot coaches etc. Fans here come up with fun tank names for so and so top pick, yet Pens get hated on because they found a way to not suck with the players they drafted? Lol. I still think the league purposely rigged the draft for the Hawks because they made a mistake saying who won and I bet that other team was the real winner.

In any case...

Pens if they win the lottery this time is truly through some next level of ignorant shit by thinking Sullivan is just a poor bloke being led astray by Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.

The issue is FSG - Werner supposedly cares about ticket sales and winning but also is highly infatuated with Mike Sullivan. So something has to give because they also really liked Dubas to the point they purposely dragged their feet hoping Dubas would be available after interviewing Tulsky, Botterill and Darche twice. So is Dubas failing the Pens or is Sullivan continuing more of his bs since this team wasn't a playoff team before Kyle and isn't one during.

As for Sullivan, Werner gave him some words of confidence. Sullivan — the NHL’s second-longest-tenured coach, entering his 10th season behind the bench in Pittsburgh — appears to have his ownership group behind him as he tries to lead the Penguins back to the playoffs after two seasons away.

“We think that he’s one of the two or three best coaches in hockey,” Werner said.
“Our focus is on giving the team resources,” he said. “We’re not really concerned about the bottom line in any particular year. We’re concerned about growth. It’s important to us obviously to sell as many tickets as we can, but it all begins and ends with winning.”

It's true Pittsburgh doesn't support a bad product. Maybe it's just high standards? Because when the product is good the support is excellent. The penguins actually have the NHL record for consecutive sellouts at 633 games. Started in 2007 and ended in 2021.
Fans will still show up if the team tries and ownership cares. But when fans see ownership doesn't care and prioritizes the coach over all else but acts like they care about winning and you see teams fire their coaches for doing less shit than Sullivan has and Sullivan somehow still survives, fans get sick of it.

Pens fans are still showing up but it's dropping. It's hard to care when the ownership doesn't care enough to fire Sullivan and push for a change to get back to winning.

They wax poetic about if you don't have a Sullivan you're looking for a Sullivan and that isn't specifically Mike Sullivan. It's finding a coach that can make the same impact and there's several. Mike Sullivan wasn't a Mike Sullivan when he was hired, they thought Mike Johnston was the next Bylsma for 2009. He wasn't. Then Sullivan had 2015-2017 with Tocchet. He's now the new Bylsma. So that comment is bs the way it's misconstrued.

There's a next Sully/Bylsma. It could be Montgomery, Nelson, literally anyone else but what Sullivan has become since 2017-18.

Minnesota seems weird given how high they fly this year.

A little surprised at the Rangers decline given how good they are but maybe you can chalk that up to playoff baseball running into the season for both the Yankees and Mets.

Pittsburgh is not all that surprising. The Steelers are good and the Penguins are not, so would imagine people are allocating their time and money accordingly.
Aren`t steelers home games always sold out anyway?
