Imagine if Dubas left, and we hired a younger person, like late-teens kind of age. And then Dubas took him to the races in a trade. We'd be begging to go back to an old dinosaur. I hope that doesn't happen.
Nah. Owmur ownership know where the money and good will lie. We'll go younger. We'll go more diverse. We'll go more, never see before in hockey. And that's a good thing.Change "younger person, like late-teens kind of age." to "experienced, old school GM" and you'd have a much more realistic scenario.
Here. I feel that you've propped up one side.Dubas is such a polarizing figure.
To some, he's the progressive innovator who "thinks outside the box" and who has consolidated the best core we've ever had, addressed areas of need, and stuck to a vision while shifting on the fly, all while shepherding us to some of our most competitive seasons in recent memory.
To others, he's a fake-glasses-and-cardigan-wearing charlatan who cares more about appearing to be the smartest and most socially conscious person in the room than on actually accomplishing anything of substance, as evidenced by his epic inability to get this team out of the first round.
Listening to the two opposing camps bicker back and forth gives me a headache. I just want to see the Leafs win.
Impressed with yet another appeal to a dubious authority.Guessing Adam Gretz is not buying what some on this board have been selling since we picked up our two goalies from the curb.
The winners and losers from the NHL offseason (so far)
Loser: Toronto's goaltending
What are the Maple Leafs doing here? This has been their big question mark in recent years, and to address it, they signed Ilya Samsonov and traded for Matt Murray and his contract. They are banking heavily on two disappointing players to bounce back in a big way. This team is under immense pressure to win (not even the Stanley Cup, but just a single round) and has a roster that should be capable of that. But they are shoring it up with a massive risk in goal. That is the one position you do not want to be bad at.
Although some feel he's past that test it's been pretty obvious to anyone paying attention and been mentioned too many times.Guessing Adam Gretz is not buying what some on this board have been selling since we picked up our two goalies from the curb.

Who is Adam Gretz though?

Enter the turd polishing to bash his credentials… Same thing I’ve heard everywhere except here. Gambling.Guessing Adam Gretz is not buying what some on this board have been selling since we picked up our two goalies from the curb.

The Athletic?THE Adam Gretzky???
“Dubas’ roll of the dice in goal, not once (Matt Murray) but twice (Ilya Samsonov), is all the more bold with what’s at stake personally, and for the team”
Roll of the dice, gambling, scrambling, take your pick.
Desperation. Well thought out planning is never a “roll of the dice”.A bold roll of the dice?
Agreed.

Is this a parody account?!I really hate our fanbase sometimes. Half of you have no idea how good we have it right now. All you have is "team hasn't won yet means he is bad" when in reality he has rebuilt our entire org in a short time, retooled our defense, signed our core.. oh yeah and also navigated the pandemic as Toronto was the most f***ed over team having that hit the same season they lock in their core.
We are literally JUST seeing the results of his changes. We had Liljegren come up and look like a top 4 D (his first draft pick as GM) with many more promising pieces coming up. He retooled our goaltending department, something we have all been wanting and has changed how our org evaluates talent which despite not having many firsts, we've managed to have a competitive prospect pool.
Half of y'all are incapable of evaluating the game. We lost so that means team sucks. Out of all the seasons I have watched, from reg season through game 7, this was a contending team that didn't lose to a better team, they lost to a coin flip. If this team plays the same way they did, these goalies are no worse than Campbell.
Would I have liked for him to go and get a Vezina goalie? Of course, but I have no doubt he evaluated what was available (not much) and decided instead of blowing cap on an unknown to roll the dice with cheaper projects.
As it stand now, Matthews WILL re-sign here so long as Dubas is here because he trusts him. One aspect of Tavares leaving was they fired the coach and GM he liked right before UFA opened and he didn't want to extend in an unknown.
Dubas is the best GM we have had in decades and he will bring us results. I am willing to let him run things for another 5 years before we pull the plug. As someone else said, he already let him make his mistakes, now we let him run things with experience and get the fruits of that labor. Or he can go onto another team as GM, win a cup with them, and have you same folks crying about this org being cursed.
In Dubas we trust. In this core we trust. Just because results haven't come, doesn't mean they won't get it done. This is still a special group. GLG

Somehow I still believe that if we're back at this point next season with another 1st round loss under the belt Dubas will still be here talking about a "process".
This is 2 years now it's been "run it back". I think we're just doomed with the guy. This fanbase has been successfully conditioned to losing.

if he was at the top of their list they would have dealt for him before the Ottawa trade with Buff which they had to give up a much larger sweetener got cancelled by MurrayThey had the resources to grab literally any of the goalies that moved this summer. They made their choice.
