the year against montreal was the year his job was on the line
This time he can choose to leave as a free agent.the year against montreal was the year his job was on the line
Why would they fire him at all? His contract will be completed. If we have a great regular season and lose another close one in the 1st round I think it would be a stupid move to fire him. However if the season gets shot to hell because our goaltending tandem failed spectacularly then I would says that's a legit reason for the heave-ho. Leaving the team vulnerable in net is inexcusable,
I'm of the opinion that he's done the best job as a Leaf GM since Fletcher and certainly miles better than the Loser Triumvirate Ferguson/Burke/Nonis but the goaltending success or lack thereof, is entirely on his head - hope it works out
In Sports, and Real Life, if you don't achieve the goals set out for you, you are replaced. Someone is getting replaced, if they fail to reach their goals this year. It might be Dubas, it might be Keefe, it might be Shanahan, it could be all of them.
His replacement is already on board wickenhieser! This is such a goofy organization and that would be such an excellent choice by this organization, someone who has zero experience in running any team or of having any high-level experience ... It really can't get much worse unless the Leafs don't make the playoffs. They haven't won a playoff series so the only ones suffering are the fans because the team is well paid and full, the management has had the run of the place for 5 years and still, it is debatable if this team is better.Skill and ability aren't the highest importance to those doing the hiring at the top of this organization. How much money the organization makes + their recent concept of "doing the right thing" are far more important than winning. If you think Dubas wasn't qualified to take on the task, wait till you see his replacement.
Come on, its been made vary clear in here already. New GM trades Holl and Kerfoot for 2nd and 3rd round picks. If you think of Dubas as a Theo Epstein level innovator who is going to do X, Y, Z for your franchise and deliver a championship, he’s got one bullet left in the chamber but largely under delivered. But on the other hand I’m not sure you kick him out since you already paid for all the growing pains and largely kept the unique core together all this time. A new GM isn’t going to dramatically improve the recipe in a flat cap.
I still cannot believe the presser they had after the season ended. and yes... I am still ticked off!
Why?The other side of the coin is that Dubas would be a free agent at the end of this season.
If the Leafs don't want him, some other team will.
He might even choose to leave Toronto behind and work elsewhere of his own accord. He would likely be in demand.
I think Kyle Dubas will succeed as a GM, with or without the Leafs.
Most of what you said. But I suppose more specifically, why do you think Kyle will succeed with or without the Leafs. Baring in mind, he hasn't succeeded with 50% of that equation. Why what?

Muzzin for a 1st Nylander for a top 4 dman and goalie and also talks AM34 into taking a sweetheart deal after he bent KD over on the last deal. Because we all know its just our current GM that's awful and couldn't get anything for our current players because other GM's don't respect him. Coach should be the first to go
He's a 36 y.o. GM with a winning record and four years of NHL experience. He grew up in a family and a community with close ties to a junior hockey franchise. He has prior experience managing a junior hockey team and an AHL hockey team with success at each level. He holds a degree in sports management and has experience as a player agent. Most of what you said. But I suppose more specifically, why do you think Kyle will succeed with or without the Leafs. Wonder if Kyle will do any interviews this time if Sheldon does get the hook?If they stumble out of the gate, you might want to bet on it. It would be a disaster cause the buddy that hired him deserves to go at the same time and we'd be left with the architect of this shitshow to run it.
TRAIKOS: Maple Leafs' Sheldon Keefe has the best odds at being fired first this season
According to Betonline.ag, the Toronto Maple Leafs head coach has the best odds (13 to 2) of being fired first. It shouldn’t be that surprising. While Keefe has led the Leafs to three straight postseason appearances, his teams have also failed to get out of the first round during that time.

What!??!!? Future Hall of Fame coach!?!?If they stumble out of the gate, you might want to bet on it. It would be a disaster cause the buddy that hired him deserves to go at the same time and we'd be left with the architect of this shitshow to run it.

Oh yeah, he might do. Wonder if Shanny had to do all of guys that lost their jobs during Kyle's reign? Or maybe it is just for the big guns?Wonder if he'll get Shanahan to do the firing again like last time?
I could see Brianne Veale getting the gig. What!??!!? Future Hall of Fame coach!?!?
I could see Brianne Veale getting the gig.
I tell ya. She'd be a serious candidate. And so should she. Ticks all the boxes.Man as funny as that is, you might be on to something.
Brianne Veale was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie where she played in local hockey associations. She continued her career at the CIS level for Brock University and was assistant captain for the Women’s Varsity Hockey Team. Brianne has an extensive background in organizing and directing hockey schools in Canada and overseas. Brianne is also the owner of Northern Elite Female Hockey Academy.
Yeah considering nothing happened after that, it's hard to say with any degree of certainty what would need to happen to trigger major changes.the year against montreal was the year his job was on the line
I tend to agree - Dubas is the best GM we've had in a very long time. We really need a goalie to stand up and get the job done, would be just awful if Dubas went elsewhere and built a solid successful organization that passed us in the standings as our new "old school" GM f***s things up well and good, just like the good old days.If we have a great regular season and lose another close one in the 1st round I think it would be a stupid move to fire him. True enough. I find that the older I get, the easier it is to get over various disappointments in life. When I was younger it was harder, like 93 for example was hard to take. Fortunately (or unfortunately) though, we've had so few teams that had any hope of going deep so there hasn't even been that many disappointments in the last several decades, mostly just year after year of suckage, as expected. I really feel like this if the goaltending is decent, we'll get it done this year, we'll see.Sport is entertainment, meant to distract you from everyday life. Being legitimately angry then and still just isn’t a healthy relationship with that which should bring the opposite to your life. We were all disappointed, but this is just sport, it shouldn’t change your day to day life, no matter how successful or unsuccessful the team is.
