The Blue Jays just took this city's last scraps of sympathy for playoff chokers and hit them with a 500 megaton nuke.

And their team is built by some of the actual people from Moneyball. The movie that taught Shanny how to be a sports executive.

I think if Leafs start off hot 30 games in, Shanny extends him
That would be alarming for all. There's no way that's on Shanahans checklist. A monkey can GM that core to a hot 30 games. Massive question marks about their expectations for this season and long term if this happens.

I mean just extend him now then if that was a concern because I'd find it weird if they worried about the first 30 games.

Yeah that's a big "what the hell" if Shanahan does that. Very confusing. Just extend him now, first 30 games will be smooth.

That one wasn't as heartbreaking

I don't think that team was good enough to win it all

If Leafs had any post season success I don't think anyone would be calling for Dubas' head.

Dubas is a good dude but I don't think he is cut out to think hockey at the GM level. His decisions are still very rookie like and they are at best a "hail mary" decisions because of the situation he himself created.

Sometimes GMs have to be ruthless to do what is "best of the team"; I am yet to see a ruthless move by Dubas for the benefit of the team

I can't see him getting extended unless they get past the first round. We already know that his regular seasons have been successful and we had a good preseason with a lot of depth players having a good battle for the few remaining spots and both our goalies looked good. Having said that, till this team goes past the first round, I don't see Dubas getting rewarded for it.

problem is market for nhl gm's stinks. i'm not even a dubas fan but the regular seasons have been good. playoffs they sucked. shanny will give him a chance to retool the core for that big trade before he is let go - thats just my guess.

I can agree with that. Many posters will bash Dubas but don't offer up who they would replace him with. Off the top of my head I'm not sure I can think of someone who would be a clear upgrade. There are a lot of GMs who I think are worse and don't give me much confidence that they can get us over the hump.

Back up the dump truck for waddell

We basically have unlimited money. They can get anyone they want minus breisbois, Steve Y and sakic

I doubt we will ever see it. It's just not in his personality.

Hopefully they can find success in the playoffs.

If not, he will probably be gone and we have to wait for a couple of years for a new GM to mold the team in his likeness.

We shouldn't pretend we know what's going on at the executive hiring level. I find it hard to believe we wouldn't have any elite options to choose from. We're not trying to find friends to join our fantasy leagues here. The NHL has the worlds greatest hockey minds.

What he did with Marleau Mrazek Ritchie etc. wasn't ruthless?

No ones pretending. But the reality is the market place for general manager's is average. Not even sure who would be replacing Dubas. I don't find anyone that much better and his regular season success has been at the top since he took over. The problem is winning in the playoffs and not getting that sorted out yet. If Shanny is still running things by season's end and they lose in 1st round, I still think he gives him a shot to retool with that 'shake up trade' before he lets him go.

People literally don't think that we can find anyone in the entire NHL that also could have paid a dick load of money to our stars and fill out the rest of the roster?

He's done a great job with the blue line, but lets not act like our regular season success is some miracle that only dubas could have achieved.

Why do you want a GM who hasn't won, do you like his roster or think that results matter? Can never keep up with the flip-flop of logic. Stevie Y falls under this category too.

Insane that Steve Y hasn't won enough for you yet you'll ride for a guy that has won less.

The ultimate flip flop of logic is killing people for not winning while defending someone with 0 career NHL series wins who didn't even win in the OHL

the regular season success is entirely due to the elite young core he took over , i don't understand how people keep ignoring this

take a look at the roster without Mathews/Marner/Nylander/Rielly and tell me what you see

Personally I like Dubas. I feel like suits our market in many ways.

He's young. He's a modern thinker. He cares about his players. There is a lot to like. He's even home groomed and has an Ontario fetish. This is the best team in my lifetime....

But we have to win a round ..

No ones ignoring it - that's just the reality of the situation. He took it over and produced good results in the regular season. We can't come up with hypotheticals on that. What if he took over a bottom dweller and acquired the core (even though he was the AGM during this time) and built the team up? How does the perspective change. It doesn't really matter. We have the body of work since he took over and we judge him on that.

A pretty solid rest of the blue line ( I'll give him credit for that) , JT and not much else

He was given the keys to the Porsche. He hasn't crashed it but he's been putting sub par oil in it and it's been running inefficiently.

Ironically this year's team might be the best built in part because he scrapped most of his original ideals when he came into the league and we now have a line of bangers and have invested into the goalie and back up
