ATD 2022 DRAFT THREAD I

That was my favorite build to date. I wasn't sure how well the F group would shake out going 3D to start (wanted to try something off the beaten path for once), but due to some timely trades and a little good fortune with players falling a bit, turned out a bit better than I expected. Fun draft, other than getting hit with covid in the middle of the playoffs lol.

You got too greedy. The 4th D pick was a big mistake IMO. Should have boosted your F group more.

The original strategy was awesome, one of my favorite ever.

Well didn't expect it to happen but it would have been nice to get Robinson with Chelios.

No biggie though, I'll take the guy who at his best simply just competes with himself and the memories of Orr, the great Paul Coffey. His compliment will of course be the nasty Chris Chelios

Nice Ying and yang picks.

Eh - forwards are deeper than defensemen generally. Way easier to find a scoring line player in the fifth round than a guy who can be a #1D.

I don't know man, there's a plateau of interchangeable D's that go on forever in the upcoming range. Take one now or later what's the difference? With forwards, the drop in wingers is steeper; with centers it's smoother but still.

Announcement

Sturminator becomes co-GM of the Montreal Canadiens.

I will dissent from this view, and I know you aren't alone in espousing it. Take it for what it's worth given my performances in the rankings and my lower level of experience with the draft perceptions and all that, but @ImporterExporter would never have been able to get a fourth guy like the one he did had he not taken him early, meanwhile he traded and mined the great value at forward later on. Also a four defenseman thing without Orr/Coffey is very different with one of them, given how impactful they are offensively.

Many of us are with the sentiment that the D value runs out way faster, but @ImporterExporter actually did something about that lol

In my own experience, when I started a team with two defenseman before, it made the rest of the draft that much easier simply because I didn't have to worry about missing out on D. Made it much easier to approach the draft proactively rather than reactively based on who was taking what.

^ I'll take Morenz and Chelios over 2 dmen in the first 2 rounds.
I mean - he got value elsewhere in the draft too. I think you should hold judgment until his first ~5 or so picks are made, since that was what the trade impacted.

Jaromir Jagr
Yeah that was my guess for the next forward taken.
