That's exactly what I would have done here. We've only been doing this 18 years together LL.

This is correct. Hasek is in our conference and Roy is in the other.

This happens often in the later part of the draft. Unlikely to happen so early, but you never know haha

Well,

I was seriously considering him at 10 based on the overall body of work, more recent Cup win and Smythe, position, and his ridiculous first half on 2022 (at age 36) has really impressed me on numerous fronts, even as an avid Penguins fan and Capitals detractor. You can't argue he's at least strongly in consideration for the all time best goal scorer title and the title/Smythe really helped ease some of the playoff hesitations. He'll form an absolutely lethal combination on the PP with Potvin and brings yet another extremely physical body to the Three Rivers HC. I feel like this is great value given he's at worst marginally behind Hull all time, and Hull went inside the top 10.

I was seriously considering him at 10 based on the overall body of work, more recent Cup win and Smythe, position, and his ridiculous first half on 2022 (at age 36) has really impressed me on numerous fronts, even as an avid Penguins fan and Capitals detractor. You can't argue he's at least strongly in consideration for the all time best goal scorer title and the title/Smythe really helped ease some of the playoff hesitations. He'll form an absolutely lethal combination on the PP with Potvin and brings yet another extremely physical body to the Three Rivers HC. I had Ovie back in 2020, if not for that I may have given him stronger consideration at 11. To me the conversation is now is Ovie the best left winger ever? I think he might be.

Have been a rabid Caps fan since '82.

But I would not put him top 10 all time. No way before Messier, Hasek to cite one team's decisions.

And he hasn't topped Bobby Hull yet.

You realize the other piece of Ovechkin's value is the positional scarcity of LW right? He could easily go that high if someone really wanted a scoring LW of the highest caliber.

Actually dropped from 16th to 21st. Def couldn't pass up the chance to check the LW box off here. At least we have the 2 premier guys at that position to go to war with!

Ovechkin is a solid pick in this spot, but he's no Bobby Hull. He was a dynamic force for about 6 years, Hull for 10-12 years.

The big difference is the skating discrepancy. Hull was one of the greatest skaters in NHL history; Ovy was not. That's surely why Hull managed to maintain his style for longer.
