He deserves it.

Just finished a deep dive on Lindsay's career. His playoff statistics are extremely close to Gordie's if we throw out the injured seasons (49-50 and 50-51) for both skaters. I know Ted's VsX totals are somewhat deceiving because he spent most of his prime with Gordie, but he won a scoring title, and that unadjusted number is lofty.

IIRC, Lindsay was my first pick in my very first ATD in the late 1st round. I agree w/you completely. Lindsay is just an all around really good LW to have on your top line. Not many holes to pick apart on him, other than the premium talent he shared the ice with, which is not exclusive to Lindsay in that time period, certainly.

The more I look at it, Park seems to be the last dman in that grouping, there's a bit of a dropoff now, no? Lindsay-Howe would have been amazing because I probably easily pick up xxx later.... but my D wouldn't be the same. I think it was a mistake, but this is a strong direction too.

Park gives you an all situations DMan who is a legit (if in my opinion bottom half) number 1 Dman in this format. I wouldn't stress - I don't think you can really make a mistake this early in the draft unless you go way off the board.

"Bottom" half is a pretty liberal description, I'd say of the "1Ds" he's bang smack dab in the middle at 18

I looked at previous years and he more or less went within range of my pick.

Honestly, LW is so weak I went for it. Either that or a center, but theres usually more of those available.

Not criticizing at all. I kind of questioned myself at first last year, because I'd seen a lot of picks in the 40s, but as I said, I stand by the pick. I like your choice. I think Lindsay gives a lot of really nice features to his game, and I think the roughly #30 pick is a good spot for him because of the depth issues at the position you mention.

Portland Penguins select Francis "King" Clancy.

He shoots and scores! He beat the goalie like a rented mule! King Clancy!

I like that pick and cheesy description. It's the kind of thing I would post.

The first ATD picks don't look that bad to me. They're all drafted.

Round #1
1 Detroit Red Wings - Bobby Orr
2 Philadelphia Flyers - Wayne Gretzky
3 Quebec Nordiques - Gordie Howe
4 Vancouver Millionaires - Mario Lemieux
5 Boston Bruins - Doug Harvey
6 Toronto Maple Leafs - Maurice Richard
7 Colorado Rockies - Jean Beliveau
8 Montreal Canadiens - Raymond Bourque
9 Winnipeg Jets - Guy LaFleur
10 Los Angeles Kings - Eddie Shore
11 Pittsburgh Penguins - Patrick Roy
12 New Jersey Devils - Bobby Hull

Round #2
13 New Jersey Devils - Mark Messier
14 Pittsburgh Penguins - Mike Bossy

The last W worthy of going inside the top 40 IMO. Great pick guys!
Thanks. There were a number of forwards we had our eyes on when we came up at #29. Makarov and Cook were at the top, but we both wanted Makarov more, so it's nice to see him still there at #35. There are a lot of different ways we could've gone here, but securing the most dynamic 1-2 punch possible seemed like our best, or at least most interesting, option.

Dang, that is an unkind post!

36. ResilientBeast & rmartin65 - Vancouver Millionaires
Round 3:
37. ResilientBeast & rmartin65 - Vancouver Millionaires
38. BenchBrawl & Sturminator - Montreal Canadiens
39. ProfessorWhat - Gallifrey TARDIS
40. RustyRazor - Portland Penguins

I also tip the cap to you going W-W to start. That's what I did in my very first ATD with Lindsay-Bossy (much larger draft to be fair), though I'm 100% certain you and BB will end up with a much better squad haha.

I like seeing the non traditional starts to rosters.

I'd rank Makarov over Bossy/Cook on an all-time list, but I'd pick Bossy/Cook over him in the ATD. Close either way.

I'd rank Clancy over Park on an all-time list, but I'd pick Park over him in the ATD. Also close either way.

Not sure if I wanted Makarov over Cook, I'd say they are a wash with different strengths. Although Makarov gives us a more different brand of offense than Cook. We expected Cook to be gone anyway.

Either way, more than happy to get him.

The Vancouver Millionaires are pleased to select Phil Esposito, C!

Re-uniting with real-life teammate Bobby Orr, Esposito has an exceptional resume- 6 straight 1st team all-star nods, with second team finishes in the years book-ending this streak. Having led the league in points an impressive 5 times, and in goals 6 times, Esposito is one of the true offensive powerhouses of the ATD. He was also able to lead the playoffs in both goals and points three times.

The very obvious choice with 1 of the 2 picks. Great pick!

We're well-aware that Makarov isn't as easy to build around as Bill Cook especially, and to a lesser extent Bossy. Same as Hull. We decided to go hard mode and start the team with two special needs wingers. We'll see how that works out.

edit: or maybe it was just me? I definitely wanted Makarov, though any of he, Cook, Lindsay or Bossy would have been alright. There's arguments to be made for all of them, which is why we moved down.
