At what point is it time for a rebuild?

I'm on the trade Martinez, TT, and a pick for an upgrade at LW. If after that and the likes of Vilardi and Clague don't seem to be enough to get us going in the right direction, making serious changes.

He hasn't scored a goal since the beginning of February.

Unless I misunderstood what you were saying you were talking about guys playing with emotion and heart and bringing it every night, and not so much for production. Would be nice to see him break out of the slump but can't say it's for lack of effort

Yeah I want Kempe to score but he's been one of our better playoff players so far. Dude is guts, throwing people around and he's only 21. Dude has a lot of adult strength and weight to yet put on.

Which is it? Do you want someone who plays with emotion/heart? Or do you want someone who scores goals? Cause Clifford's only scored 6 goals while Kempe has 16.
Kempe plays on the 2nd/3rd line. You need production from those lines. 6 goals in 50 games for a 4th liner is fair.

Kings can't rebuild if they want to keep Doughty - he said he doesn't want to be part of that. Also, tough to hit reset when you have 6 more years of Kopitar, 4 more years of Brown, and 4 more years of Carter.

They are going to have to copy the Bruins. Krejci is 30, Bergeron is 31, Backes and Nash are 32, Chara is 40, McQuiad is 30, Rask is 31, but basically the rest of the core team is under 30 and the core new guys are 20-21 years old.

This is the dilemma. With the exception of Chara, the Kings core players are every bit as old as the Bruins. However, the Bruins already have their next wave of 7 or 8 players currently 20-23 year olds already in place and playing in the NHL. The Bruins know those kids are NHL'ers.

How many do the Kings have which fit into this category? One in Adrian Kempe, maybe two if you count Amadio. Now how long will it take for the Kings to find 4 or 5 more of those guys, and how old will Kopitar, Carter, and Quick be by the time that happens?

Add to this we probably just witnessed Kopitar's best season ever and I don't think Brown will come back and duplicate what he did this past season. Then there is Carter who is very good, but seems to fade as a season progresses. The biological clock is ticking for this roster.

Boston drafted Pastrnak 25th over all. Debrusk 14th, McAvoy 14th, Carlo in the 2nd round, Donato in the 2nd, Heinen in the 4th round. Kevan Miller, and Tory Krug were college free agents. 3rd round draft pick Brad Marchand could have scored 40 goals this season if he didn't get injured and suspended. None of these guys are top 10 picks. Boston has a great scouting staff, plus they hold onto their draft picks.

This is what frustrates me the most about Lombardi's last few years with the Kings. If he hadn't traded Lucic, there is probably a good chance that we have either one of Barzal or Connor. If Dean had just traded Jones for a 1st round pick (if he had any takers), they could have had Barzal and Connor. No real point in reminiscing about it now, but oh what could potentially have been...

Agree with not being top heavy, but...man, trading Doughty in his prime....I get it, if he won't sign he won't sign, but that's a helluva thing to do, and realistically what would you get for him, I could care less if he has one day or one year left,

I think you need a good 3-4 solid solid solid pieces back,
I definitely get the reasoning behind not trading Doughty, but if the Kings didn't trade him and he ends up walking away in free agency, that would be a major blow to the organization. I don't want the Kings to have to trade Doughty, but if it came down to it I would rather get something at the trade deadline then get nothing for him come July.

Blow it the f*** up, though I don't think Blake has the balls to do it. f***ing pathetic team the last few years. The Voynov and Richards debacles really sunk this team.

If we're gonna be a bubble team, at least make it an offensive team. I didn't mind boring defense when it worked for us, but now it's just sad.

if winning the jennings trophy gets you swept in the first round, you're not doing it right
