Do you think he's worth it? I have heard nothing but good things but admittedly don't follow him very closely. Just see good stats and good character. He would only be the 4th player the Rangers ever recalled from juniors. And the first to be recalled after the season was over (the other 3 were emergency call-ups)

That is a really cool story. These guys are normal people. I bet he liked speaking with Rangers fans. I like to hear things like this for pro athletes. Glad you shared it.View attachment 600526
A month into the season, Othmann has done exactly what was expected from him. 19 points in 11 games, leading his team in almost every category.
This kid was close to NHL ready but simply no spot open for him.
Now that I'm back, I can actually share the story of how Othmann invited me and my fiancée to White Plains for lunch. Over the last 12 months, I've covered Othmann and our other prospects extensively, and over the summer I even had the pleasure to interview Othmann.

Exclusive: Brennan Othmann talks with us about his journey to play for the New York Rangers - Forever Blueshirts
Brennan Othmann took time to speak with Forever Blueshirts about his journey and goal to for the New York Rangers.www.foreverblueshirts.com
After that, we stayed in touch and Othmann said he would like to meet up when I am in New York. So on Sunday the 25th of September we met at a little restaurant in White Plains. Othmann was part of group 1 that day at practice, so he was out early. And it also meant he would be playing the following night against the Islanders.
So, onto the train. To White Plains. Man, that was quite a ride. But over an hour later (I was staying with my fiancée in Middle Village, Queens) we reached the place and a few minutes later, there he was!
He spent a good 2-3 hours just chatting away. About his time in Switzerland, about his experience at camp. But he was also interested in our story. It was a genuine conversation which I really appreciated. Probably the most memorable meeting. Because of how genuine it felt.
He then kept his promise (That he made last December) to sign the EHC Olten jerseys I have, and he then also left us with some signed pucks and autographed personalized photos.
We spoke about a lot of things we initially touched on in the interview, and were able to elaborate a bit further like the progression of his season in Switzerland, how his friends react to him signed his ELC, expectations of his family and teammates etc. The type of stuff you don't really hear about.
It was a great experience and I am forever thankful that he invited us over.

I thought he was a left wing ?I think it all depends on what Drury does at the deadline. It's interesting to think about a possible scenario where Othmann is added for nothing, over a player that costs picks or prospects.
Our RW depth with Kakko, Lafrenière and Othmann would be fun to watch.
He is, but it doesn't matter. If a player isn't good enough to switch to their off wing, they probably aren't good enough to play either wing in the NHL.I thought he was a left wing ?
Great story. Thanks for sharing. It really speaks to his character and personality to make the effort to spend time and get to know you.View attachment 600526

I liked him to begin with but like him that much more now.
Forgetting the unlikelihood that he plays on NYR late in the year, he would be eligible for Hartford late in the season when his OHL year is done?
Very cool. Keep up the good work, and don’t let a few salty fans put you off. For every one negative comment, there are 20 or more people who really enjoy it.He would be, but only on an ATO.
And thanks. I am happy to share it, despite the one or two salty reactions from people. Sharing these stories matters, and it's the main reason I started the prospect interviews 3 years ago. These kids, and their families, have sacrificed a lot to get to where they are. They need to get their story out. Share it with the fanbase, but also for their family and friends.
I get messages still from guys I spoke to 2-3 years ago. It has really shown me a different side of hockey players.

It's so weird for me seeing this comment but I'm not the quoted post it's in response to.You sound like a person who no one would ever want to invite to lunch.
It’s not - but a 19 year old NHL propsect wants to get lunch with some blogger superfan? Seems weirdWhy is it so odd that a human being invites another human being for lunch?
Ok broYou sound like a person who no one would ever want to invite to lunch.

Wardy?You can just scroll on.
AK enjoys it. The players enjoy his work. Many of us enjoy reading or listening to it. If you’re just going to cut the guy for the fun of it then get lost. He contributes a lot around here. You don’t.
Im really intrigued by Ethan Hay, Othmann’s teammate. Could be nice center depth for the Rangers if they draft him in the 23 draft.

Fair enough though I think you’re grossly overvaluing a first round NHL prospect needing to be “heard and understood” by a fanbaseThese guys haven’t made it yet, and in general there aren’t large editorials written about them. They see the nice fluff pieces AK does for other prospects and it’s nice for them to feel heard and understood and for fans to get a different perspective on them and their development, and AK is probably a nice guy to talk to.
You can just label him a ‘blogger superfan’, which he somewhat is, but these prospects clearly like talking to him as well and know what he writes is seen by many more ppl than they’re used to reaching. He’s not doing this with 14 year olds in a dark basement bar which some of you make it seem like.
I'd expect more than a sandwich if I was asked to fly over lolWe've been talking regularly for almost a year. It's not as if he reached out to me out of the blue and said "Hey man, fly to New York and meet me for a sandwich"![]()

Most of these kids are from the boondocks and until they hit the NHL they don't think too highly of themselves like we do. It's how many of them are raised. 98% of hockey fans also don't know who our first round picks are until they first step onto the ice for an NHL game and Sam and Joe give a biopic on them, we are the minority here on hockey forums. This isn't the NBA or NFL where they're already stars irl, they've been playing in Saskatoonersville and HiddenForest for CHL, USHL, or lower level Euro leagues, not Division 1 Colleges with millions of followers.Fair enough though I think you’re grossly overvaluing a first round NHL prospect needing to be “heard and understood” by a fanbase
