For strictly on-ice performance, you shouldn't trust betting odds to properly rate any team.
Why not?

Because Vegas doesn΄t set odds based strictly on (expected) performance. Why not?
Because Vegas doesn΄t set odds based strictly on performance.
I already covered that. Stop being so obtuse.and what is the reason they would set Toronto's odds better than their projected performance?

Sure, let's go with that.you said it was due to leafs market size, right?
You actually think Leafs nation is BOOSTING the betting lines on the leafs.
Thats adorable. Have you ever met Leafs nation?
How does someone “meet” Leafs Nation.
You can’t possibly mean Internet discussion board posting?
Sure, let's go with that.
of course it means internet discussion board posting. and twitter, and call-in radio. all of it.
you didn't?
The scope of the Leafs fanbase is definitely encapsulated in internet discussion boards, Twitter, and call in radio shows that no longer exist..
It would be nice to face a wildcard team this year. Not that they're pushovers but any boost to our chances is a good thing.
One way or another we are going to have to beat some good teams in the playoffs and win multiple rounds before we can be considered a really good & successful team. Easy matchups and just win one round are just low bar "feel good" (a little better) objectives and aren't much in the way of measures of true success. To be perfectly FAIR - I would at this point be happy with a first round win, not because of anything else other than just finally winning a round. After what has seemed like decades of utter failure. That doesn't mean that I am not a fan that expects a lineup like ours deserves to be held to the highest standard, because I do - anything other than Stanley Cup winner is not good enough at some point when the talent is there; BUT . . . after not even getting past the first round for this long, you need to take the first step before you dream about the 4th.
Sure I agree, but goaltending is a key position and we signed a couple of question marks. Let's hope it pans out. If Murray is to be our tender, he's going to have to stay healthy for a long stretch, something he hasn't been able to do for quite some time.I just read that article from the Athletic and find it interesting how the narrative from some hf posters and media is that we’ve regressed and even may not make the playoffs. We’re just coming off a 115 pt season and lost a couple of bottom six and an inconsistent injury prone goalie, yet somehow our team has regressed. It’s really laughable the lengths they go to push their anti Leaf agendas.
Not sure where you got the idea winning a round would satisfy me.One way or another we are going to have to beat some good teams in the playoffs and win multiple rounds before we can be considered a really good & successful team. Easy matchups and just win one round are just low bar "feel good" (a little better) objectives and aren't much in the way of measures of true success.
That's true . . .. in a bubble. One way or another we are going to have to beat some good teams in the playoffs and win multiple rounds before we can be considered a really good & successful team. Easy matchups and just win one round are just low bar "feel good" (a little better) objectives and aren't much in the way of measures of true success.
Is that anything like "expected" results?Oh yippee - 4th best odds!
Leafs lit it up last year despite having a GAA above expected in the negatives. It is unlikely that the leafs will suffer a lot worse in goaltending (Murray was positive) if there isn't an injury problem. As for shutting down Matthews and Marner, I'm afraid that this kind of scenareo in only in a dream world. There is zero chance these guys dont remain among the most dangerous in the league if they stay healthyThe goalie and defense situation has been and will continue to be an ongoing problem. Given how top-heavy their forward group is in terms of the cap situation and production I think this year we will see their goalie and defensive situation take a step back as teams like Ottawa prove to be more competitive and start nipping on the heels of the 3 spot in the division.
I think Toronto will struggle to get into a playoff spot due to their goals against taking more of a hit this year and other teams in the conference doing a better job of figuring out how to shut down players like Matthews and Marner.
Its good considering that Kyper said last years roster was the weakest in years.I just read that article from the Athletic and find it interesting how the narrative from some hf posters and media is that we’ve regressed and even may not make the playoffs.
