Lehkonen is an elite defensive winger who can generate offensive chances.......but is a below par finisher to put it kindly.

He's a great example of someone you fall in like with and will bolster the bottom six. Don't give him more than $4m in a resigning, preferably south of that.

Thanks, much appreciated. I guess he's being brought aboard for his bottom six physicality more than anything, then. Would be nice if he could regain those finishing touches but I won't hold my breath.

Which expectations?

He was a end of 2nd round pick,. He's a good 3rd line defensive winger scoring on average 15 goals every 82 games in career. You can't really ask more than that from a 2nd round pick.

The return we got from him is very good though.

Thanks to you as well. I suppose the 'expectations' I was referring to was from when he scored 18G in his rookie season, which he hasn't touched since then. But I reckon you've helped me see where his strengths lie, so, thanks again, I appreciate it.

Can any of you beautiful Habs people tell me what Lehkonen has done of note outside his OT goal against VGK? From what I'm seeing, he's continually failed to live up to expectations since his rookie year, and seems to miss most of the chances he has in front of the net. Barron is going to be a stud, absolutely hate seeing him leave, especially since Byram's concussion problems will likely cut short his career. I really, really don't understand the excitement behind Lehkonen. Is the bar just really that low over there? Getting someone who's paid to score while not scoring doesn't really build my confidence.

He's Finnish Nichushkin.

And with that 2nd round pick, which should be late, we draft Lehkonen 2.0 and do it all over again.

You forgot that we got a kid with him. But even without the kid that's the point of a rebuild. You need players like Lehkonen to win. But time flies and Lehkonen will be 27 next season. By the time the rebuild is done he'll be close to 30. Like i said when KH was hired he should trade players over 26 and rebuild around players younger than 26. Obviously you keep some vets like Gallagher (untradeable anyway) but you go get picks and kids to build around Suzuki and Caufield and you also need to draft guys like Lehkonen to help them. I'm not a big Lehkonen fan but he's a solid 3rd line player and if we can get the same with the 2nd round pick but younger that will be job done.

Awesome trade and one of the few I’ve ever gotten (somewhat) right lol!!

We needed a right handed puck mover and Barron is a big, smooth skating, extremely talented on both sides of the puck, prospect. I felt he was the perfect guy to target and he has a history of playing (very well) with Guhle. Add on a second rounder and Hughes nailed this pitch out of the park. A top notch prospect and great guy according to all of his former coaches. 20 points, plus 10 in 42 games in the AHL as a rookie, the future is extremely bright for this kid!

Will miss Lehkonen a lot, he never complained and always worked hard, I wish him nothing but the best and will be cheering him on. Will always have a special place in my heart for his series winning overtime goal. Go get em Lehkky!

Can’t believe we got that return! Barron is the best prospect that moved today.

Wow!

I would have been happy getting this return for Toffoli, and getting the Toffoli return for Lehk, so it evens out.

The whole winning all your trade "meme" of the MB era was stupid. No GM wins all his trades. What is important is the big picture. The vision. The team building. So far KH has a vision. When I look at all the trades he did i see where he is going and overall i think he got a very good return for all the players he traded.

Oh I'm not against the trade at all. On the contrary! Lehkonen was drafted late second, just like that pick will be. We can hope to draft a player who will eventually return us an A prospect and 2nd pick again in many years from now.

You can't even WIN a trade. You make a good one or a bad one (Value and Perceived Value; the Roy trade was bad and looked worse after Thibault didn't pan out at all) but WINNING or LOSING depends results and results change over time (Weber gets injured, Habs lost the trade; PK gets injured, Habs won the trade).

The whole winning/losing thing was nonsense from day one.

Amazing deal. Avs fans won't be happy about this when Leks falls back to his regular form.

I've post that on the Justin Barron thread but I will post it here to:

He's 2nd in the AHL in pts for Dmen under 21

And 5th for the PPG

2nd for +/- (not my favorite stats but..)

I'm not talking about winning trades. At the time of the Toffoli trade I was disappointed he moved Toffolis so quickly because I thought he could potentially get a better return by waiting. But I'm happy with KH and what's done is done. I will say, hopefully he did learn something about timing going forward. He did say during the press conference that yes he was surprised by how much of a seller's market it was today...

Avs management shouldn't care about the fans. Lehks is a great bottom-6 player. With only 12 players under contract for next season, the fact that he's a RFA brings a bit of value. Barron should become a much better player than Lehkonen for sure... but.. Lehks was the most used forward on the Habs PK. He'll bring depth to their squad and probably for multiple seasons in his prime (whatever that means). Who knows. He might even get a better scoring touch surrounded by better players? :dunno:

I'll miss Lehkonen a lot but this is the type of return that you basically have to take for a player like him, how our prospect system looks, and the direction of the team.

We've now got Guhle and Barron, one for each side, two big kids with smooth skating strides, a lot of range, and enough offense to transition the attack and implicate themselves.

What's your take on Barron ? Since your from Halifax (I think ?), you probably know him very well

He's a really good kid, like I said, he's got a buttery smooth skating stride for a guy of his size. He doesn't have the meanness that Guhle has but isn't afraid to be physical. Is more of a puck transporter than a passer, but he's got a soldi first pass when needed. Has a good not great shot.

I always saw him as a guy who could maybe do PP2, would play on your 2nd PK unit and be able to eat a lot of minutes on the ice.
