Lehkonen doesn't turn the needle on his own, he's the complementary piece on an already dominant line.

In three years when Suzuki, Wright (or whoever) Caufield and others are ready to compete then we'll go get a lehkonen.

We have so many Lehkonen in the pipeline that it is almost impossible none of them pans out. Eineman, Smilanic, Poehlling, Ylonen, Mysak, ...

Worst case we can resign Lekhonen himself when he becomes a FA

Colorado was in win-now mode and needed a player like Lehky to solidify their forward group and they went for it which is what a properly managed franchise should do. I mean you no disrespect by your mentality here is the same one that held us back with Bergevin, he failed to help the team because he never went after it when he had the chance. There were reports that he wouldn't give up Ryan Poehling in a potential trade for ROR, I mean, what?

They weren't miscast, they were simply the best we had and all are or were playing above their rightful places. They are all solid depth on good teams, more complimentary than the core.
When he did try to go after it, he missed hard most of the time (Sergachev for Drouin, 2 x high 2nd rounders in strong draft for Shaw, Alzner longterm). His big picture vision was unfortunately pretty bad. He held when Price/Pacioretty/Plekanec/Markov/Subban needed help. He went for it when it was time to boost up prospects in 2016/17

Bergevin didn't want to trade Poehlinh + 1st for ROR.
It's almost impossible to believe this rumor. I know ROR did not go for much but man why in hell would you not do that trade considering the situation we were in? Maybe if they did not want us to top 10 protect the first i can understand but if they were willing to do that with a protected 1st then man ... if you add ROR to our lineup last year i think we have a legitimate chance to beat TB.

Lehkonen is playing exactly as well as I thought he would. We have to hope Barron becomes a top 4 d. Lehk really looks like the missing piece in Colorado. He seems involved in every OT win they get.

Actually in hindsight, Buffalo got a pretty decent return. Tage Thompson turning into a monster through good development and the low first round pick is a decent prospect too (Ryan Johnson).

The reason for trading him was never a question of whether he can preform now or even the next couple seasons. It's whether he'll be worth his cap hit for Montreal and whether he'd be good by the time Montreal is ready to compete. Barron is the best RD prospect in the system right now and Habs about to lose Petry. I think this move is something that had to be done. I don't even think Avs can afford to keep Lehk at this rate. Having the 2nd be in 2024 is also really smart since it would be the first year Mackinnon would have his new mega contract.

Yeah Thompson had a great year but back when the trade was made he was a guy drafted at the end of the first round who had a lackluster first season. Obviously he was just 20 and had plenty of time to develop but he was not a blue chip prospect. He was like Poehling an interesting prospect drafted at the end of the first round. I mean if i'm looking for a 1st line center to complement Weber and Price (two probable HOF) than i'm paying that price 100% of the time. This said i highly doubt Buffalo was willing to trade ROR in the same division for the same price they asked Stl. Team will always trade out of their division unless they receive more. So the Price was probably Poehling, a 1st and something more.

Some Habs and ex- players had been miscasted and misused. See what Danault, Lehky and Armia can do if put in more offensive roles chairs. Armia will always remain a puzzle anyway. I am expecting him to be traded in this off season. He looked very good at the last World.
Armia looked good in the playoffs for us

When you watch Byram play, you quickly understand why the Avalanche were willing to give up as highly regarded defensive prospect as Barron. With Makar and Byram, the Avalanche have two elite puck moving defensemen. Most teams don't have one. Is it any wonder that the Avalanche are overwhelming their opposition these playoffs? Makar and Byram, will be the cornerstone of future Team Canada's for the next decade.

Talking about Armia i'd overplay him this year. There's only 2 years remaining after next season so if he has a good season next year a team might be interested considering how well he did for us in the scf run. He is another of those guys too old for the rebuild. By the time it is done he'll be getting close to the middle of his 30ies.

Don't forget Girard.

The year that he added Martinsen, Ott, and King was an absolute joke, none of those guys helped the team at all but the sad thing is that MB thought that they were the missing pieces.

Many thought the same thing: "we're finally getting bigger!!!11!!" was all over the radio. That's when I realized that most people don't know **** on how hockey is played

Size and grit is good to get.... But you need the right ones. Maroon certainly helped TB a lot in the last three seasons.

But he's just a spare part playing on a stacked team. Bergevin believed that those guys could be the missing ingredient and that was not the case.

Yes. They were garbage. But the idea to acquire some muscle was not bad by itself. King has won two cups with LA. Ott was a good vet until then.

I mean, they're not terrible players. Matt Martin, Ryan Reeves fit like Maroon on a deep lineup.

I think this deadline is the time i stopped believing in MB. I started to have doubts after Weber and Shaw trades but this tdl was the nail in the coffin. I mean none of those guys addressed any of the real need we had. We actually had a good team:

AG-???-Radulov
Patch-Danault-Gallagher
Lehkonen-Plekanec-Shaw
Byron-DD-Mitchell
Flynn

Markov-Weber
????-Petry
Beaulieu-Emelin
Pateryn

Price

We needed a top 6 center and a top 4 dman. Not sure if there was any guys available at the tdl filling our need but if you can't fill a need then there's no reason to trade assets for a useless player and all those guys were useless without a top 6 center and a top 4 dman.

MB downfall might have been believing DD was a top 6 center. When you look at the trades he did in the summer of 2016 and at the tdl 2017 you have to believe MB was convinced DD was a legit first line center.
