Really? I'm a tad surprised they got a 2nd as well, but Lehkonen was clearly worth a Barron-type prospect, stat watchers be damned.

I'd expected to get a prospect like Kravtsov or Lundkvist for Lehkonen.

I believe that Barron is a better prospect than both and "more safer". He is A type of prospect in my mind. Everyone like Guhle, we should like Barron too. Différent players, but both have big potential.

I'm not a prospect guy so you may be right, but I thought Barron and Lundqvist had/have similar value. I proposed a Lundqvist-Lehkonen swap, but I'm pretty happy with the Colorado deal too. Montreal desperately needed a RD with top 4 upside and they got one.

I've always loved Lehkonen's game and I'm not really surprised he's been great in Colorado, but Montreal was under immense pressure to make a move because of Bergevin's disaster. Lehkonen had value and HuGo got good value for him. Hopefully its a win-win deal.

Well when you have Makar and Byram as RD, you other RD prospects become assets in trade.

Yeah, it's pretty great trade in my view. Colorado traded based on their depth in defensive assets and in acquiring a need. Montreal traded based on getting the highest possible value for a forward who wasn't an untouchable.

To me. Lehkonen > Armia/Byron. I agree with you, he's not a top6 player. He's a really fine middle-6 though. I might be insane but I liked Lehks overall more than Anderson (considering contract in that decision). Imo Anderson isn't bringing enough overall.
Agree, I prefer Lehkonen to Anderson.

Because I want a full rebuild, I'm fine trading both.

They will be happy, but bot laughing if Barron pans out.

Dallas won the cup by getting Joe Nieuwendyk. So it worked out for them. But that they had to give up young Jarome Iginla to do so means in no way were they laughing...

He got many opportunities in the top 6 here.

I like him, but he wasn't able to produce despite the opportunities. I hope it was mental, and he gets some confidence playing on a loaded offensive team. He could potentially score 25, even 30, playing with those guys. I hope he does...
Lehks scored when it mattered the most: in. The POs. Tell me, how many goals does Matthews currently have?

Lehks helps you get to the playoffs with tight defensive plays then scores huge goals once in the playoffs. You really can't ask for a better deal from a guy like him.

hahaha while i usually would have agreed, man this post not age well.

Linemates like MacKinnon and Landeskog might help a little
Side benefit of having top pick in draft. Helps others on team. Like to try somebody else with Suzuki/Caufield next year. Increase their trade value. Get extra first in next draft or solid prospect in another Barron

Drouin, Byron, and Jake Allen are ufa's. A big priority this season should be trying to put them in a position to have big years and then get something for them at the deadline.

Would be nuts if Lecky won the cup. Would be similar to when Eller won it. I think he would never have been more than he had been with us if he had stayed. So anyway I wish him the best.
Looking at him play right now and I miss my boy Lehky. So involved, so efficient, an elite third liner on a cup contender team.

What a great player in his role he is. I think it was worth it for the Avs to give Barron in return, I would've been outraged to get only a 2nd and a B prospect!

Good luck boy, lift that cup!

Lehky is the perfect guy for a cup winning team. We weren't that. We had no use with him. And when we will be ready to compete, he would be older. The problem is not to have let him go. The problem was to not be able to build a competing team with Price, Lehky, Eller, Plekanec, Pacioretty, Subban, Gallagher, Danault. Either those guys are the products of those guys. Add just a fine drafting and development, and this team would ALREADY have won at least 1 if not 2 Cups. And would still be competing.

I love Lehky. Always said that he had to be top 5 in the players the hardest to play against. Of this whole league. He'd win the trophy for best forechecker of the entire league. But he was no use with us who can't compete. We had to have a great value for his trade. We have to hope Barron is it. I'm not convinced. Let's hope he is. I'M still a little underwhelmed by the players received in Heineman and Barron. Avs didn't mind at all to let Barron go with the D's they have. And got a great piece in return. Still, again, despite all those wins, Bergevin put that organization back as if we're still in 2012.

Good for Lehky to play well with the Avs. I don't think he's breaking out right now, he's just having a good year and given how bad our cap situation is and the abundance of wingers, he had to go.
Yeah, not a breakout, just a good player that has a chance to play with other good players in a context (playoff) where his work ethic shine thru.

That's a player you want on a strong team that can go far. Like Goodrow, Rust, etc. Some players disapear in playoffs, Lehky is the opposite. I know it was the right move but we'll miss him...

Anybody who scores 18 goals as a rookie common sense says he should score 30 in his prime. But Lekhonen seem to back peddle with Habs.

Happy for Lehkonen. He always worked hard and he deserves this. Another player that should get better results is Armia. I think that next year we will see a better player.
