My favorite trade so far by Hughes. Can't believe Habs have acquiring Justin Barron in exchange for Lehkonen, 2nd round pick 2024 is a great bonus too because Habs don't have their in 2024 (Because of Dvorak trade).

5 games is not a career, but Barron have show his great potential. Pretty good 1st NHL goal too.

Really? I'm a tad surprised they got a 2nd as well, but Lehkonen was clearly worth a Barron-type prospect, stat watchers be damned.

This Lehkonen trade has the potential to be absolute highway robbery for us.

Sakic's no dummy, but if Barron pans out...

Barron has the body, skill, and skating to be a good one. He's got things to learn on how to properly play D in the NHL but his potential is very good. Still early yet and he can become a top 4D if he keeps up the hard work.

Lehkonen will be extended with the Avs and he might be a valuable piece to them. Sakic knew what he was trading and it was from a position of strength for a team need. Cup contender that needed a 200' forward who can play a lot of roles.

I think this trade works out well for both teams.

Thing is at one point, for teams with depth, what you give out isn't as important. Avs with what they have on D, couldn't care less about Barron. Us giving Sergachev up was putting us back 5 years behind. No matter if we like to think that Sergachev isn't that good...he'd still be on top of our pairings. Lehkonen on a cup contending team, a real one, is a crucial piece. And they clearly could have afforded Barron.

In that case, the trade has to be looked that way...

If Avs win and he plays a great role, it's a win for the Avs.
If Barron develops and he becomes top 4, it's a win for the Habs.

This trade will and should never be judged 1 player for another. But mostly the player vs the result of his own team.

yeah, Sakic .. I'm suspect he just let Barron go without knowing something, he for sure is no dummy

We love Lehkonen so far. It might end up biting us if Barron explodes, but our defense is solid and need to go for it now.
If you love Lehk now nothing will dissuade you going forward. Hughes wasn't bluffing when he set the price for Arturri. Barron should help us but in no way will he explode. The Makar's are few and far between.

I believe that someone mentioned a rumor that some of the Avs brass were not over the moon with him and were willing to move him. As far as young defencemen go, it will take a few years to know if they are able to process the NHL game and reach their potential. Look at Rasmus Dahlin, he was a first overall pick that was labeled as a can't miss and he has 4 seasons under his belt and is still developing.

AL is a fine player but redundant on the Habs.
I wouldn't say redundant, as with Gallagher and Byron declining, Danault gone, we now lack of effective, responsible, never-give-up players.

I didn't want him to go, but with what Hughes received in return, I'm happy with that trade

It's not going to bite you in the ass if you are a knowledgeable hockey fan , and I think you are.

Your team is stacked on D and you know that, Barron could not help you guys out much if at all in the next few years. In Lehks you picked up one of the best defensive forwards in the league, and he will without question give you a better chance at winning the Stanley Cup. Knowledgeable fans know this and have no problem giving up a Barron quality player for a piece to help you win it all. So no regrets. And we are excited to have Barron, who has an X% chance of being a top 3/4 Dman.

Lehkonen is underrated on this board. People hate him because he doesn't generate enough offense. To be fair, he was scoring some nice goals in his first season. He was put on a checking role for his whole career here. It suits him well but he can bring a bit more! He's a really good 2way player. I hope he gets signed on a "cheap contract"

No 2 players are a carbon copy of another but Byron is still with the Habs be it often injured,Rem is similar and with Heineman in the picture next year, also similar as well as Ylonen. It appears to be a decent haul for the Habs and they needed to start making changes.

Believe me if the Avalanche win the cup and they retain Lehkonen at a cost friendly deal they will be the one laughing. Lehkonen has been phenomenal with the Avs.

They will be happy, but bot laughing if Barron pans out.

Dallas won the cup by getting Joe Nieuwendyk. So it worked out for them. But that they had to give up young Jarome Iginla to do so means in no way were they laughing...

He got many opportunities in the top 6 here.

I like him, but he wasn't able to produce despite the opportunities. I hope it was mental, and he gets some confidence playing on a loaded offensive team. He could potentially score 25, even 30, playing with those guys. I hope he does...

Lekhonen’s skill set is valuable to a contending team. As long as the habs are bottom dwellers, it makes no sense to have kept him.

Also, Lekhonen isn’t a star, so expecting a greater return is simply silly.

Both teams got what they needed. The habs need to rebuild completely, the avs need to win while their stars are productive.

We got a 1st round pick who's progressing well and a 2nd. What more could we have asked for?

Lehkonen scoring 30 nets? I don’t this is shot accuracy is gonna be better at 26 yo. He is a good energy guy, on forechek and you want him on a third line, but often he missed the net by far.

idk about "laughing", but they won't regret sending Barron and a 2nd over for Lehkonen.

I mean, look at that D, Barron would be at best their 6th D in the near future (depending how they like E. Johnson or not?)

Lehkonen though, slots beautifully on their 2nd line with Kadri and Landeskog who can provide offense.

For us, Lehkonen was never gonna do much because we don't have anyone for him to support. Barron however might be in our top 4 next season.

As win-win a trade as they exist.

To me. Lehkonen > Armia/Byron. I agree with you, he's not a top6 player. He's a really fine middle-6 though. I might be insane but I liked Lehks overall more than Anderson (considering contract in that decision). Imo Anderson isn't bringing enough overall.

Well when you have Makar and Byram as RD, you other RD prospects become assets in trade.
