So we went to the finals the year Toffoli arrived, but Toffoli had nothing to do with it. That we went to the finals proves it was because of the grinders that had been here many years but didn't do squat before the reinforcements like Toffoli arrived the offseason before we went to the finals.

Is that your argument?
Yes. I double down.
Toffoli (surprise) along with KK are the only former habs to have dissapointed with their new club and in the playoff. Players like Lehkonen and Danault are more valuable players than him.

They will be happy, but bot laughing if Barron pans out.

Dallas won the cup by getting Joe Nieuwendyk. So it worked out for them. But that they had to give up young Jarome Iginla to do so means in no way were they laughing...
Ah comparing the Lekhonen trade to the Nieuwendyk-Iginla trade … same impact.

I hope both fanbases end up loving this trade. I'll always be a fan of Barron but we needed Lehkonen now and couldn't wait for Barron to develop.
I hope so too. These are exactly the kind of trades that I like, that make obvious sense for both sides' particular needs and can equally satisfy both in different ways. It hurt to lose Lehky now in his prime but it made sense to gain a good prospect as a rebuilding team.

not sure what your point was, but the comparison wasn't the impact, it was trading a vet to get a cup by giving up a young player with their whole career ahead of them...

One playoffs is too small of a sample size to provide conclusive evidence.

But I also think Phil is really valuable and was underrated while here. I was ready to give him his 5.5M, when most here were ridiculing him all year for declining 5M.

Value is contextual. Toffoli was valuable without Hoffman and Caufield, they needed a sniper who could exploit open space and Toffoli did that well. KK was valuable in Montreal because there weren't many other centers and there weren't many other big players, he's redundant this year in Carolina, but we'll see who they re-sign.

Lekhonen couldn't seem to finish here, possibly because there were fewer other options. On a stacked Colorado team his value goes up.

Danault was very valuable to the habs, definitely worth more than Gallagher, but Bergevin decided to play hardball for whatever reason, ego, maybe? Danault is doing really well again this year. Danault is the only player other than Suzuki, maybe Caufield, and Price if his health holds up that I'd consider a play driver they could build the team around. Romanov could be added to the list at some point, along, hopefull, with some of the recent picks.

Avs fan coming in peace. I thought this trade was too much for Lehk at first but I was/am super high on Barron. Lehk has been a great fit for us and worth the price after reflection. I think Barron will be a stud for you and fits your window better. One of those trades that is a rare win-win.
It was a solid trade all around

As of right now, that trade s**** for us. You're getting plenty of Lehks while we have to wait to see how Barron plays next year. We haven't seen much of him because of his injury. Hopefully he does become as good as he is projected

Barron showed glimpses of many good things. His 1st NHL goal was highlight reel.
MSL used him 3 on 3 in his first game against the Devils.
Hopefully his ankle sprain heals properly.
In Lehks the Avs got a huge playoff piece and he has been terrific.
Good luck the rest of the way, Colorado is the most exciting team in the league!

Can you guys believe his forechecking? He was our forechecking DEMON
He was snakebit for what seemed like SEASONS at a time but generally our teams as a whole werent very good, but God he always gives it his all, good enough speed, built like a horse
And scored the goal of my life. I'll love that lil bastard forEVER
Take care of him :D
Miss ya Lehks, go WIN that thing

????

How is this trade crap for us? It’s a trade for futures. It’s a great trade for us.

I may have overreacted with my choice of words. Barron's injury sucked. That's what I meant. We couldn't see enough while Lehkonen proved himself to be a good and resourceful player

A lot of Avs fans' initial reaction was thinking it's an overpayment. But a lot of Habs fans were telling you that you will fall in love with Lehkonen. The guy is the definition of hard work and being a professional.

For where both teams are and where they're headed, this was the kind of trade both teams will be happy with.

Wordsmith Adam hits the nail on the head as usual.

Lehkonen won't score 30, but he'll see a nice bump in his production playing on a powerhouse like the Avs.

I absolutely knew Lehks would step up in the playoffs – he always has. Both teams got what they needed.
I disagree - in the end I expect Hughes will have been taken to the cleaners, I don’t expect Barron will be anything more than a 3rd pairing Dman.

Habs were never going to get fair value for Lekhonen - who’s value was much more than simply G + A

Why do you not think he has more than 3rd pair upside? He's got a cannon of a shot and good hockey smarts, he's also a plus skater.

Weak defensive positioning instincts - that’s fine of the offensive acumen is top tier…which I didn’t see evidence of

We aren’t in the playoffs. Lehkonen wouldn’t play anyway.

We’ve seen enough of Lehky. He is a good player but we have no cap to sign him and he was a bit redundant.

Moreover, we had only Mailloux for good rd prospect. Now we have Barron and I think he will make the team out of camp .

Indeed win-win deal

Loved Lehks. Expected him to play real well with the Avs. Very happy with the trade and what we got. No regrets
