Saying Bergeron is a top 6 player is like saying Ovechking is a top 6 player. Bergeron's an elite top line center who's going to the hall of fame. Lehkonen is a poor man's Lehtinen if you're going to go with these kind of comps.
I did not say he was Bergeron. I said he was a Bergeron type player. Good a both ends of the ice.

Obviously I am not going to say Lehkonen is a futur hall of famer, be serious.

I would also like a reminder when we will have MacKinnon, Rantanen, Landeskog, Kadri, Nuke and Burakovski as forward depth to complete Lehkonen and Makar, Toews, Byram and Girard on defense since apparently we should not have traded Lehkonen for a young player and a pick somehow ...

Yes, I'll gladly remind you when Wright, Suzuki, Caufield, Roy, Farrell, and Kidney are a great core.

But a great trade to add Barron and a 2nd for Lehkonen.

Lehkonen is a solid player, and hot now. But he'll likely cool off offensively.

If Barron becomes that smooth skating top 4, this trade is am easy win for us.

Lehkonen is still a very complementary player, though good at what he does. Barron has the potential to be a real impact player at both ends of the ice.

Why aren't you high on Barron?

Great skater. Lots of potential. We await to see how well he processes the game. It takes a while for dmen to really get the nuances of the NHL game.

I have my doubts too, I just wish we had someone more "NHL certain" against Lecky. One thing I hate to read about a prospect is what I bolded. It seems to me every time a Dman bust this was written about him before by somebody ;p

That is probably because that is the main question asked about virtually every dman to ever enter the league. It is the toughest position to learn because it is the biggest jump to mentally make from junior hockey outside of goaltender. Some answer this question relatively quickly and others take more time but the question is always there at the start.

Lehkonen is by no means a certainty to be good offensively. He isn't going to sign for less than 3.5M (Armia/Byron money), likely closer to 4M. Getting Barron, who was a 1st round pick in 2020 and hasn't really done anything to drop his value that much, helps the team have another option to build this D.

They don't need all their D picks/prospects to hit, just a couple. They can always trade Barron to get a more established D too. Trading Lehkonen gives Habs much more flexibility.

I've been a lekhonen stan since day 1. This board used to rip the kid all the time. Anyways moving on was the right move regardless of how dreamy he is

I thought Barron looked really good skating wise for a 19 year old playing his first NHL games. The way today's game is played skating is half the battle for Dmen. Him showing he can walk the line and get his shot through with confidence is just gravy. Compare how he looked to a guy like norlinder who has a bunch of pro seasons under his belt and I don't see how you can be dissapointed. Kid is 19 , literally a baby on D

The change in attitude with respect to Lehkonen here is curious.

I remember a lot of fans wanted him gone, and it was seen as purgatory for either Danault or Kotkaniemi to have him as a linemate.

He was seen as a black hole offensively yes. And as an excuse to explain KK lack of production.... (lol)

He was (and I believe, still is, despite what we see right now) a third liner with great defensive ability. He will get back to that role in a regular season. But his kind of crucial defensive role is easily overlooked by fans because it is not that apparent.

Unfortunately, we had to move him at TDL despite his young age, because we are stuck with stupid anchor contracts such as Gally, Price, Armia, etc.

At least we got a good return.

It will probably take a minimum of 5 years before they are ready to win. By that time Lehkonen will be close to 32 and will be less effective than he is today.

I definitely agree, I remember defending him a couple of time when he was larsellered by our fans.

Hey, some of stan'd Lehkonen for a long time. He's excellent for what he is (play-driving shutdown winger with a bit of offense) and found another level this season. Montreal was just in a position where they were better off trading him than keeping him.

I didn’t want to trade him, but when I seen the return I said it was worth it. I go back and forth on it daily. I’m a lehkonen fan and always have been.
