Small perimeter player who's not as dynamic as he was in 2019-20. Great regular season asset but he's not the guy to get it done in the playoffs @ that cap hit it seems. Unfortunate because everyone assumed those contracts were kind of the new norm prior to Covid. Then the cap not rising and all, ugh.

I love Panarin. But 11.6m off the books might allow us to restructure the team a bit. Drury can then truly put together the roster he wants. I wish I was on EdJovo and tlk's side on this, but right now I'm not.

Get this choke artist out of here. Maybe Vegas wants another big name. Maybe he has friends elsewhere in the league that he would like to go to. He's done here after another piss poor playoff showing. Drury seems to be pretty ruthless so I fully hope he goes mudslinging if need be to get this guy out of here. 90 points in the regular season means jack shit come playoffs...and if we're being honest, 90 points is quite low for a 11.6 cap hit. With that salary, 100 points should be a lock. 110+ being more like it. Get some players who can go to the f***ing net with the puck and maybe a Dman who can actually make a better pass than our goalie can.

This is a terrible idea. You can achieve the same thing by retaining 50% on his contract and getting an absolute ransom of futures for him if you need to retain big money to deal him.
No one is giving you a ransom. He has a full nmc so he can control IF he even moves anywhere. Other teams know that and no one is paying you anything significant. If his contract wasn't buyout proof or didn't have a nmc then it would be different.

We could go through a list of 5v5 stats that have been a net negative during the playoffs and post season since his first year here. Plus minus has consistently been considered a useless stat going back to the staal and girardi days but if you want to rely on that whichever. Besides that what other metrics back him being a net positive at 5v5? I'm just curious if I'm missing some.
You're the one saying he's a net negative. I just pointed to the only Stat available that says otherwise.

Yesterday was a great example of his value. He creates and prolongs scoring chances better than any other forward they have.

I saw no value in the way he played yesterday, especially with 3 giveaways to no takeaways which also included a handful of blind cross ice tosses through the NZ that went directly to devil's players.

And it wasnt just him yesterday, let's be clear, but he is the second highest cap hit in the entire nhl and suppose to be the offensive driver on this team.

Panarin has put up lots of regular season points as a Ranger (despite floating around the ice from the start off the covid bubble to like December of this year), but his presence is the root of many of the Rangers problems.

He's nuking the cap situation with that 11.6. He refused to play with Kakko in the top 6 when 24 was coming into the league (why is he wearing an A again?), he's outright blocking Lafreniere and soon Othmann and fans will wonder why they aren't developing like they should. Even now they cater to him on the PP, and Mika is too much of a nice guy to say anything. 93 was scorching hot coming into the playoffs, so they moved him out of the spot he is most effective because 10 refuses to break a nail in the bumper spot. Allergic to contact and wants to pay Instagram hockey.

Even after all this, the Rangers still brought in all his buddies to make him more comfortable (which I was an still am in support of). To this point they've handily outplayed him in the playoffs. Drury isn't going to play nice this summer and I think we are going to be in an untenable position if this series continues to go poorly. The chickens have come home to roost on the contract Davidson and Gorton gave him.

That's the thing. People can blame the Kids and the 3rd Pair defense all they want but those are roster issues very freaking team deals with. How many contenders need to drag around their highest paid player in the most important time of the year? Like being in a fight with 1 arm tied behind our back.

This is it right here. He's been here for how many years? Doesn't want to play with the kids and then the Rangers do cap gymnastics and jump through numerous hoops to bring his friends in, who despite being new to the team, proceed to outplay him in big moments. For all the talk of Kane being an old washed up perimeter player, he still has his brain and understands that playoff hockey is about getting the puck to the net, creating chaos and looking for tips and rebounds. Tarasenko has had numerous shoulder surgeries but hustles for every puck and also understands that it has to go towards the net. Panarin plays every playoff game like its an all star game, thinking that THIS cross ice pass is gonna be the one that finally ends up in the net. Get him off the PP1 for all I care if it means Mika back to the circle.

He's not in Nash territory yet but he's getting close.
It was a meme but Nash was playing good defense and he wasn't flinging cross ice bullshit passes 10 times a game as far as I recall...I've blocked a lot of that out of my memory over the years, but yeah.

I thought he looked really good in the first 2 games. The last 2 games he has not looked like himself. Instead of his smile he is showing frustration too often. I think he is worried about perceptions and gripping his stick too tightly. He should just relax and go play. He will produce eventually but we need Bread and Mika both to step up next game.
