You know who got the best out of Panarin in the playoffs? John Tortorella.
He must have brought some of those good habits that Torts helped him establish into his first season here. But then as all Rangers stars do, he started to think too much of himself and that his shit don't stink, and went back to being a perimeter p***y.

Pretty crazy how one of the highest paid athletes in the league never has to address the media. I know it’s all for show mostly, but the optics are bad. Like zero accountability. Seems pretty unprecedented but what do I know.

As I said on the last page, he’s a pretty boy narcissist who won’t ever sacrifice his style for substance. Instead of talking to the media, after putrid playoff performance after performance, Bread spends his time on stuff like this:

I personally don’t really question his heart or character. Maybe it’s an issue, I have no idea, that’s not my focus. He seems like a good teammate and is obviously a good player.

My focus is this team has a speed and skillset imbalance issue. We’ll need multiple players to help reshape that balance and for a long list of reasons (cap being number 1) Panarin is the one who should be moved to help facilitate that.

It just sucks that we got one year of MVP level play all over the ice and never really saw it again. I know he's put up the points but his impact all over the ice has never quite been the same since. He used to be a guy who back checked hard, picked guys pockets, would come low in the defensive zone on breakouts and take the puck up ice himself. He used to cut into the middle off the rush while also being the premier playmaker in the league capable of slicing defenses apart with east-west passes. We don't see any of that apart from the playmaking but even that is a bit more sporadic than it used to be. I don't know what the answer is and I don't think he will waive his NMC anytime soon.

If the FO basically tells him that they don't want him, I don't really see him wanting to stay.

Players don't generally hang around places where they're unwelcome. If they try to move him and he refuses and continues to suck, he's going to get Joe Murphy'd out of town.

Moving on is the best for all parties really. Panthers would be a great landing spot for him.

It’d be fascinating to be able to investigate a timeline wherein we never signed Panarin. The Islanders probably have a Cup in that timeline unfortunately.

But the cascading effects of not signing Panarin would be profound for the roster. We’d likely have several additional good young players. Lafreniere might be a star player (if the theory that his being held off the PP, etc.) has some truth to it. I’m not sure that the team would be better right now.

That said, I am 100% positive that he needs to be moved ASAP. A team built around him and his style is not going to win four playoff series. He’ll probably go on to play a secondary role somewhere, win, and infuriate us even further, but I’ve wanted to move on from him for well over a year now and every playoff game that goes by just further cements this stance.

It wouldn't have been those teams + Panarin, it would have been those teams +Panarin and - a few other guys.

I used to be of the same train of thought as you but knowing what we know about Playoff Panarin, are we even sure that they get over the hump with him? He probably ages even worse playing under Trotz and they likely have to get rid of/dont have room to add guys along the way who made an impact for them on their runs.

I wish he stayed with the Jackets. Would have taken that out of the equation entirely.

lol at people wanting torts back as the head coach......that will never happen

TBH, I'm so sick of the Tort-sturbation around these parts.

He's a mediocre coach who doesn't have an offensive system, who thinks yelling at his players is a good long term motivational tactic. It might work for a short time, but it WILL piss people off especially when they bust their ass for you only to get shit on when they're hurt or have an offday.

The only thing a coach like Tortorella is good at is getting the most out of a bad team. That's it. He was decent pre-lockout in a very different game with a very talented roster, and he's had a couple of good individual seasons, but in general he walks away with two points in fewer than half the games he coaches.

This team needs a two-way tactician who understands both offense and defense and can create flexible systems with nonetheless clear structures that match players and their skillsets to roles where they can succeed.

There are a million shit dinosaur coaches out there whose "system" is defense, and whose offensive system is basically IDK let those creative guys create, or just dump it in and chase hurr durr pucks deep, traffic in front of the net, cliche.

For just once, I'd like to have a coach leading this team that actually coaches and develops offense. I was really hoping Alain Vigneault would be that guy, but he fell back into stupid habits (riding the wonder twins on D and Tanner Glass 4 lyfe). I was really hoping David Quinn would be that guy, but he fell right back into bench the kids, make them earn it, let veterans and gritty players be mediocre forever without penalty. I was really hoping GG would be that guy, but his offensive system is, "IDK my assistants handle the powerplay, and let those guys create as long as they play fast and don't give up too much on defense at even strength" which is crap.

Great guy, great life story, goofy and fun-loving, but I get a “just happy to be here” vibe from him. And it rubs off on the rest of the room, because he is their most talented and highest paid forward.

If I’m Drury I call him into the office after the season and say, “I don’t think you have what it takes to win a championship, I don’t want you on my team, give me a list of teams you will waive to or prove me wrong.” And see how he responds.

Pretty sure Drury did that last season after the playoffs. It was reported he had a sitdown with Drury and Drury wasn't happy with his playoffs. Drury will likely be doing everything he can to get rid of him this time around.

I loved breadman but it's time we trade him in the offseason. He doesn't have it anymore, you can tell. He used to be tenacious in the ozone a couple of years ago. Now it's the same move, spin along the boards to look for the cross ice pass backhand

That's because he's injured just like in last year's playoffs. That's what's causing him to do all those shitty passes still....

LOL at the Jovo spin machine.

send Panarin to Vancouver where he can put up his 100+ points and not have to worry about producing beyond the Regular season.

Ahhh yes, if Panarin goes to Vancouver, he will rack up a sizzling 115 points enabling Kravtsov to really let his inner beauty out and accomplish that 20(0) point season we all know he’s capable of.
